After months of negotiating and diplomatic delays, six Chinese airlines will be allowed to order a combined total of about 60 of Boeing's new 7E7 Dreamliner airplanes.

The order would be worth about $7.2 billion at list prices, and would be a strong boost to Boeing's efforts to secure a foothold for its new super-efficient 250-seat jetliner in the global marketplace.

There is a twin story to this where China is also going to buy some A380's. Just not announced at this point.

Spread the wealth?

Apparently. If you go to the link Moount Athos posted, the Airbus deal was for A330's, unless there is a second deal for A380's.

From some of the reading I've done, apparently there are dozens. Still the wild west with regard to that industry there.

France Reveals Airbus A380 Sale To China

January 21, 2005
Airbus will next week announce the sale of five A380 superjumbo planes to China Southern, the French transport ministry said on Friday.

The deal between Airbus, China Southern and Chinese aviation supplies organization CASC will be signed on January 28.

The news was disclosed, apparently accidentally, in a weekly diary released by the office of Transport Minister Gilles de Robien, including a reference to the planned signing ceremony.

Industry officials confirmed the deal with China Southern, which brings the number of orders or commitments for the world's largest civil plane to 154, following a commitment for 10 planes from US parcel service UPS in early January.

Airbus declined comment, however, saying it did not comment on aircraft sales before its customers made an announcement.

Aerospace watchers have been waiting for weeks for details of a deal with China after Airbus predicted the double-decker A380 jetliner would be sold to a Chinese airline soon and that China would also be using the planes for the 2008 Olympics.

The A380 was officially inaugurated earlier this week and is due to enter service in 2006.

Thank you

Finally!!! We've been waiting for this!

So, with the Chinese orders, it should be changed to 787, as 8 is a lucky number in their culture. Word is that's what they were waiting for.

OK, I guess I'm ignorant, this implies a real level of capitalism, if not freedom in other areas.
