GRANTS PASS, Ore. -- A federal judge has denied a request to halt logging within the 2002 Biscuit fire brought by environmentalists who claimed the U.S. Forest Service failed to protect hundreds of dead trees that should have been left standing for salmon habitat.
Deferring to the scientific expertise of the Forest Service on what trees should be left standing to protect streams, U.S. District Judge Michael Hogan in Eugene ruled that claims brought by the Forest Service Employees for Environmental Ethics were not serious, and they were unlikely to win in a trial.

The gift that just keeps on giving.
Good thing I read the entire article before commenting. I read the excerpt and was thinking that I had never heard of salmon living in trees.
It probably won't be long before enviroweenies try to throw themselves in front of other farm equipment in order to save the plants.
In this case, DEAD ONES.
Coho Conifers

Environmentalists USED to be good people. Now they're too far gone to retrieve! They want the Forest Service to protect DEAD TREES, instead of the LIVE FOREST! Dead trees in the forest are a major fire just waiting to happen!
Should have been left STANDING for salmon habitat? When was the last time you saw a fish climb a tree????
Take the dead trees down, and deliver them to the environmentalist idiots. They can use them for toilet paper!
Hello?!
What was I thinking?
I read the whole thing and still can't understand how salmon live in dead trees.
It's the stump that hinders erosion and a stump will stay in place after logging. A standing dead tree eventually may fall, uprooting the stump, and possibly blocking the stream and creating more erosion.
It's an indirect effect.
"At issue were regulations requiring the Forest Service to leave behind dead trees along streams and intermittent channels to prevent erosion that chokes salmon spawning beds and to provide large woody debris that creates resting places for fish in the water."
good riddance.
Yeah, I like the large woody debris in a bass lake, too.
Makes great habitat.
But PETA won't let us fish anymore, poor fishies feel pain.
I wonder how many fish, salmon included, woul dnot be around anymore if not for fishermen.
Sorry... off subject.
"Sorry... off subject."
Ummmm.....Not really.
The enviros' refuse to accept the fact that there is a tax built into every sporting goods purchase (in MN, at least) that goes towards everything from wetlands to hatcheries. Rods, reels, line, bullets...... all contribute to wildlife. Game, as well as non-game.
When was the last time you saw a fish climb a tree????
If you ever go fishing with me you will see a lot of casts that are in the trees!
If you ever go fishing with me you will see a lot of casts that are in the trees!
I believe it, but I'll bet there are no fish attached!
However, I almost drowned once, caught in a tree. The tree WAS in the water, however. I climbed it.
Is that kinda like "roe v wade"?
BTTT!!!!!!
