Mobile virus infects Lexus cars
SC Magazine (Online) ^ | 01-25-2005 | David Quainton

Lexus cars may be vulnerable to viruses that infect them via mobile phones. Landcruiser 100 models LX470 and LS430 have been discovered with infected operating systems that transfer within a range of 15 feet.

It is understood the virus could affect the navigation system of the Lexus models, it transfers onto them via a Bluetooth mobile phone connection. It is still unclear whether the cars in question use the Symbian operating system which has recently been under attack from various worms and viruses.

Vulnerable operating systems are increasingly moving onto a number of different devices. Last year the Slammer worm infected 13,000 Bank of America ATMs as a result of them moving to a Windows-based operating system.

Bill Gates is a known Lexus driver. In 1999 he auctioned one for charity. When contacted Lexus declined to comment.

Here we go. Driving down the interstate, enjoying the early fall weather when the car suddenly decelerates, pulls onto the shoulder, opens the door and ejects you.... because you voted Republican.

Sounds more like SUV behavior.

Well, serves them right.

They would be totally safe if they used a Mac.

Although the article doesn't specifically state this is Microsoft software I wouldn't be surprised. Let's see them use their End User License Agreement (EULA) to get out of liability for a muticar, multi death accident because of flawed software

Gives new meaning to the concept of "buffer overflow," doesn't it.

Worse. The voice recognition software calls up every Anne Murray song after you tell it to play Anthrax.

It would be even worse if it called up every Anthrax song after you told it to play Anne Murray!

What a poorly written article. It's written like there have been Lexus cars infected but in truth it doesn't indicate ANY have been infected. All speculation...

You know there's something wrong with the state of automotive technology when a car is even physically capable of catching a "virus". Rust I can understand; virii, no.

Yeah, but that car would come without a windshield or steering wheel and would only run on bayberry scented lamp oil.

Just another woman in love, a kid out of school
A fire out of control, just another fool
You touch me and I'm weak, I'm a feather in the wind
And I can't wait to feel you touching me again
With you I'm just another woman, just another woman in love

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD MAKE IT STOP!

I would not be surprised if Anne "Queen Of The Cover-songs" Murray has done an Anthrax tune or three.
