Coming out in Springfield Which of 'The Simpsons' regulars is gay -- and will get married when their town legalizes same-sex weddings? By Stephen Kiehl Sun Staff James Dobson has his work cut out for him. Last week, the conservative flame-thrower denounced SpongeBob SquarePants - the harmless cartoon sponge who holds hands with his friends and lives in an underwater pineapple - for appearing in a "pro-homosexual video." Next month, a regular character on The Simpsons will come out and be married in a same-sex wedding. Simpsons producers haven't revealed which character turns out to be gay, but that hasn't stopped fans from speculating or placing bets on who it might be. Patty Bouvier, the chain-smoking, raspy-voiced sister of Marge who has rarely dated men, seems to be the leading contender - one Web betting site, PaddyPower.com, stopped taking wagers because so much money was being placed on her. But before spreading more idle gossip, let's deal in facts.

"I think Disco Stu and the Bumblebee Man would make the best gay couple."
Disco Stu, maybe, but Bumblebee Man is already married. (Ai-ya-ya, uno candelabra periculoso!)
Chief Wiggum is my bet.
I think it will be Principal Skinner (whom Homer famously described as being a "possible Homer-sexual") marrying Smithers.
I thought Smithers was already outted?
If not, it could be the hobby-shop guy.
is it not Smithers? he has long known to be gay...
Would finding out his dad is gay upset Ralph, or would he simply say, "My breath smells like cat food?"
Then there's Smithers and his obsession with Mr. Burns and of course Rod and Tod are clearly on the same path... not to mention Marge's sisters....
Ralph is lonnnnng gone. He could not keep out of his father's "forbidden closet of mystery"
I went to your profile page.....
I like cats, too.
And great Slushees.
I think you mean Squishees"
"Squishees" is a Registered Trade Mark with the QuickeeMart Corporation of SomeplaceInIndia.
I get them "ees" mixed up sometimes.
Rod and Tod! That'd be a classic choice, as I remember that episode where they show R&T in the future, and they're both on the front lawn, either washing a car or painting some furniture, and they're both dressed in Freddy Mercury shorty-shorts with obvious insinuation!
You're right about the tall fuzzy hat and big bone jewelry. That's Sideshow Mel.
And I was wrong about The Pirates Of Penzance. It was the music from HMS Pinnafore.

BUT
Sideshow Bob wears a skirt, a necklace, has a weird-do, and loves show tunes, so I still vote for Sideshow Bob and Smithers ( ewww)
Principal Skinner has been doing Ms Crabapple for years.
Good episode. In it, an older and now blind Ned thanks Bart for "not outing Rod and Tod". Now that's pretty clear. Whether or not there's the an incestuous taboo violated as well, we can only guess. Perchance they married to avoid death taxes? The scoundrels! After all, tax avoidance would be the gravest law violated in a land such as Springfield.
"Principal Skinner has been doing Ms Crabapple for years."
Just happened. It's Patty (Marge's older sister). She's marrying someone named Veronica. Homer expressed what everyone watching was thinking by pointing out how unsurprising Patty's announcement was.
...and then Veronica turned out to be a man in disguise -- he pretended to be a woman so he could compete in women's golf tournaments (a la "Tootsie").
