RE: "the producers of Chicago did what Mel Gibson refused to do--pushed like crazy for nominations and then votes."
No argument there, as they were led by the sleaziest Oscar campaigner since Chill Wills, Harvey Weinstein.
Hey, if the man could get Chocolat nominated for Best Picture (Chocolat, for the love of God!), then he can get just about anything a major Oscar nomination.
"Everyone" = YOU.
How you ever twisted my personal belief that sources, like all humans, have a particular political slant and agenda as me saying I only believe what I see with my own eyes, I'll never know.
It is simply stupid to assume that no one comes with an agenda.
You are very serious and touchy about your hollywood stars and movies being called into question aren't you?
Not really. I have spent the past 4 years on FR laughing hysterically over the "Boycott Hollyweird" crowd. They amuse me. 340 posted on
Quick! Quick Malakhi! Before it is too late!
You are right.. everyone could be me.. since you are not that interesting of a gal.
LOL already did.
Been there. Done that. Waiting for trouble. hehe
I know what you mean but I retain the right to define trash with my own eyes. =)
I think my definition of trash would include this: If I left the theater feeling like I've wasted my money, or have sunk into a pit because the stupid movie was depressing, or it afflicted my sense of honor or Christian principles (and so forth), then to me it is trash.
FWIW, movies I have really enjoyed include A Man for All Seasons (and I'm not Catholic); all of Jane Austen's books made into films except the newer version of Mansfield Park which was skewed in its adaptation; The Patriot, although I thought the slow-mo on the blood scenes was unwarranted; and (not cinema) Band of Brothers, where, again, lingering on the blown-up bodies as long as they did had me reaching for the fast forward button. I have lots of other favorites but that is a quick pass at it.
Your favorites?
Yeah....you are real interesting. Most psychos are.
That A&E version of Pride and Prejudice was astonishingly faithful to the text of the novel. Those things still irk me. In the 6 hours it took to watch that thing you could read the novel in a little more time. I don't care how good it is you aren'g going to improve on Jane Austen.
AW name calling! Shoot! And here I thought you were just a real nice gal who was a bit confused. Well you showed me Bella!
The Oscars are voted on by people from within the industry. They are the people who truly care and perhaps even know, what is worthy of mention.
I was an Academy member for several years because I was a member of one of the unions--the Dramatists Guild. I voted every year, and ever tried to see all the Foreign films so I could vote on those.
If people truly want to see lousy movies, then see some of the trash produced in Hong Kong or India each year. India probably produces more films each year than any other country., and a lot of them are garbage.
But then so are a lot of American films.
The only person I want to see win this year is Morgan Freeman, who always does fabulous work.
Sad, really.
LMAO! You are just disgruntled because Hollywood hasn't fallen to its knees and begged the forgiveness of the Boycott Everything crowd.
And you have still yet to address how being skeptical equals using myself as a news source.
Actually, what I mean by that is they tend to reward the films that depict the lowest human behaviors. Film is such a powerful tool to shape and influence society for good; I hate to see it wasted on the opposite. Example: many actors and film makers used their craft and talent in WW2 to build up the support at home for the war effort. Compare that to today (Michael Moore; the non-film making media posing as reporters, etc.).
If you choose to ignore movies in general, that's fine. But then to assume that since you have not heard of them, then it is a joke demonstrates ignorance on your part.
Well that would be really funny- since I am not part of the boycott everything hollywood crowd- wouldn't it?Reading comprehension isn't your strong suit is it?
Obviously it isn't yours.
RE: "Your favorites?"
All-time faves, or just the newer ones? Hmm.
Well, you've got to start with the Godfather, the king of all cinema and still the coolest, freshest, and most involving story I have ever seen unfold before my eyes on screen, matched only by it's sequel.
Goodfellas, E.T., Pulp Fiction, Raging Bull, Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, The Searchers, Blazing Saddles, the Producers, Caddyshack, The Quiet Man, Casablanca (which I'll claim until the day I die is really a tough, funny guy movie), Blade Runner, Psycho, The Exorcist, Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf?, Fargo.....make a short list of some of my faves.
Don't know if your perceived "Christian sensibilities" would be offended by any of this (though I'll lay good money on PF, Blazing Saddles, and maybe the Exorcist not being for you), but remember that you asked for them.
See ya.
The question was: How does having a skepticism of news sources equal only getting news from myself?
