LOL already did.
Been there. Done that. Waiting for trouble. hehe
I know what you mean but I retain the right to define trash with my own eyes. =)
I think my definition of trash would include this: If I left the theater feeling like I've wasted my money, or have sunk into a pit because the stupid movie was depressing, or it afflicted my sense of honor or Christian principles (and so forth), then to me it is trash.
FWIW, movies I have really enjoyed include A Man for All Seasons (and I'm not Catholic); all of Jane Austen's books made into films except the newer version of Mansfield Park which was skewed in its adaptation; The Patriot, although I thought the slow-mo on the blood scenes was unwarranted; and (not cinema) Band of Brothers, where, again, lingering on the blown-up bodies as long as they did had me reaching for the fast forward button. I have lots of other favorites but that is a quick pass at it.
Your favorites?
That A&E version of Pride and Prejudice was astonishingly faithful to the text of the novel. Those things still irk me. In the 6 hours it took to watch that thing you could read the novel in a little more time. I don't care how good it is you aren'g going to improve on Jane Austen.
RE: "Your favorites?"
All-time faves, or just the newer ones? Hmm.
Well, you've got to start with the Godfather, the king of all cinema and still the coolest, freshest, and most involving story I have ever seen unfold before my eyes on screen, matched only by it's sequel.
Goodfellas, E.T., Pulp Fiction, Raging Bull, Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, The Searchers, Blazing Saddles, the Producers, Caddyshack, The Quiet Man, Casablanca (which I'll claim until the day I die is really a tough, funny guy movie), Blade Runner, Psycho, The Exorcist, Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf?, Fargo.....make a short list of some of my faves.
Don't know if your perceived "Christian sensibilities" would be offended by any of this (though I'll lay good money on PF, Blazing Saddles, and maybe the Exorcist not being for you), but remember that you asked for them.
See ya.
