very disappointed that Lugar didn't intervene during many, if not most, of the Dims' tirades against Dr. Rice.

Lugar certainly seemed to show a gaping hole in his "leadership skills." Then again...

Maybe Lugar is deliberately being soft on Barbie-Que because he wants to make the following tacit agreement with Bush -- "I won't let them murder Condi, if you give me XXXX in return."

Maybe Lugar is a bad guy, who is holding Condi hostage.

I suspect Sen. Lugar is operating under the principle "If you see your enemy destroying himself, get out of the way and let him continue."

Dr. Rice is a very smart, mature woman who can take care of herself. She's dealt with much more important and dangerous people than the Senate Democrats. She'll be fine. The Democrats, however, are only digging themselves deeper into the hole they began while x42 was President. I think the Republicans in the Senate are only providing the shovels.
