they cannot see the obvious parallels between George Wallace and this Byrd/Boxer spectacle. Here's the only Bird/Boxer spectacle I am able to stomach, at the moment.

The contemporary Democrat Party is a disgrace. The faster it sinks into oblivion the better.

Four hours on this is four hours not spent on something else. Does the Senate EVER feel any urgency over anything?

very disappointed that Lugar didn't intervene during many, if not most, of the Dims' tirades against Dr. Rice.Lugar certainly seemed to show a gaping hole in his "leadership skills." Then again...
Maybe Lugar is deliberately being soft on Barbie-Que because he wants to make the following tacit agreement with Bush -- "I won't let them murder Condi, if you give me XXXX in return."
Maybe Lugar is a bad guy, who is holding Condi hostage.

Look, I know whereof you speak, but they can't marginalize Rice. Condi is a heroine to the Republican base, especially after the attacks by Babs and Kleagle. The fact is, the more they attack her, and the more demeaning the attacks, the more desperate they look.
It's a bit like aiki-do. All Rice has to do is bend like a reed and snap back.
All they have done is to piss Condi off. She won't show it. She'll get her payback in another way.
Be Seeing You,
Chris

You're right. I've forgotten, I couldn't believe I was hearing Biden say that.

She'll get her payback in another way. thanks for pointing that out. Even if Condi decides not to do that, it's nice knowing she can balance things out.

Yoiu've done a good job of surmming up the motivations behind their antipathy toward Rice.
If she were one of theirs, they'd be rolling out the red carpet, instead of piling wood on the inquisitional fire.

I'm disinclined to assign a racial aspect to Biden's comments. I think it's more just his own weird way of trying to sound like "the average guy". He does it all the time to black and white alike.

I'm disinclined to assign a racial aspect to Biden's comments.I think you are probably right. It was, nevertheless, an horrendous case of political and social "tin ear."

You may be correct.
However, given the way some public figures referred to Colin Powell as a "House Negroe"..courtesy of Harry Belafonte...and others who referred to Dr. Rice as a Parrot (with an accompanying overtly stereotypical cartoon)it at least shows that Biden uses very poor judgment in his attempt to be the "average guy".
Remember how blacks were portrayed in movies of yore? Remember "Step 'n Fetchit"? "Yess Boss...Noo Boss".
If i were a black person, I'd be outraged...shoot, I'm outraged anyway!

Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if Sen. Byrd used the n word during his soliloquy today. The man is obviously deranged.
