A Day in the Life of President Bush (photos): 1.24.05

A culture of life for America got a big boost from President Bush as he addressed, from Camp David by telephone, pro-life demonstrators in DC marking the 32nd anniversary of Roe v. Wade. He told abortion opponents he shared their support for 'a culture of life' and lauded progress in passing legislation to protect the vulnerable.

Presidents Bush and Chirac plan to have dinner in Europe next month. The president is also planning to host Chirac in the United States sometime soon. Bush plans to stop in Germany, and to meet with Russia's Putin in the Slovak Republic during his visit to Europe.

The Bush administration plans to announce it will seek about $80 billion in new funding for military operations this year in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife, Lynne, will lead a US delegation to Poland for observances marking the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camps. Cheney will tour Auschwitz, honor Holocaust survivors, speak at the international forum, meet with Poland's President Kwasniewski, Poland's PM Belka, and Ukraine's President Yushchenko.

Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island!

Guess what I got in the mail today? A "Commerative Invitation" to the Inauguration! All full of flowery language and such, then on the bottom said (in more flowery words!), "This isn't an invitation and won't get you in anywhere." Oh well, it was cool anyway!

I call my cousins, cousins once removed and second cousins all just cousins. Sometimes someone will comment about an age difference, then I'll explain.

***(Still singing "All I Ask of You" in my head. :o)***

Tell me, Ohio, why do I think of Nelson Eddy everytime I hear that song? Is their some possible melodic connection to something he sang? Or is it just the style in which it's sung? I've been wondering about it for years.

My reading is the dinner on the 21st is a special one with Chirac as it specifically states that GWB will host a working dinner for French President Jacques Chirac in Brussels on February 21, the other leaders are then being met on the 22nd.

President's Statement on Johnny Carson
(whitehouse.gov)

January 23, 2005

STATEMENT BY THE PRESIDENT

Laura and I are saddened by the death of Johnny Carson. Born in Iowa and raised in Nebraska, Johnny Carson was a steady and reassuring presence in homes across America for three decades. His wit and insight made Americans laugh and think and had a profound influence on American life and entertainment. He was a patriot who served in the United States Navy during World War II and always remembered his roots in the heartland of America. We send our prayers and condolences to the entire Carson family.

-------

To quote Johnny, and regarding the bolded part, "I didn't know that."

Those houses in Mass. look as though the whole town is made of sugar. I'm amazed, and I'm from the frozen N.E.

I guess unlike SOME people (I have a certain person in mind there), he didn't feel the need to remind us every three minutes.

Out of all of my differences with that certain senator who shall remain unnamed, my biggest problem with him is that a real hero doesn't need to TELL everyone that they're a hero. Everyone will already know.

Thanks for the great photos of the March. I'd love to have been there.

I was thinking the same thing about "love to have been there." I've participated in one March for Life at my state capitol and it was an extremely fulfilling time.

To be a diplomat, you need a dull nose, strong stomach, stronger soap, and a lot of showering.

I guess that's true, but Chirac is still a miserable piece of [blank].
