Why is George Bush having to spend so much time defending a speech promoting freedom? It's amazing. Freedom is so unpopular around the world that you can't even stand up and deliver a speech extolling it's values and virtues without taking criticism from all corners. Such is the popularity of government-provided security. I ranted enough about this last Friday ... you can go to the archives for more. But, as I said, I just can't let it go. I grew up being told and actually believing that people love freedom. The biggest disappointment of my adult life may be the realization that this whole "love of freedom" thing is a complete lie. For the most part people seem to love freedom right up until that point where the old responsibility thing kicks in.
As for George Bush, during his speech he said that "It is the policy of the United States to seek and support the growth of democratic movements and institutions in every nation and culture, with the ultimate goal of ending tyranny in the world."...

Apparently, being in support of freedom makes one a warmongering criminal according to the Leftstream media and Europe.
Sad to say, many would prefer security over freedom. Freedom means responsibility and many are not willing to accept responsibility for themselves.
Actually, I think it's also a matter of the Left's juvenile attitude that whatever President Bush says he is in favor of, they have to oppose. The president could say he loves sunny days and the Left would come back with, "But...But...We neeeeeed the RAAAAIIIIN!"
GWB also told us that he wouldn't engage in "nation building".
It is sad. They prefer "peace" instead of freedom. They shouldn't even call themselves Americans IMHO.
Freedom isn't free, and many people are cheapskates.
I totally agree. He should take advantage of this. He should come out and say he is for abortion, for the seperation of Church and state, and for doing nothing for social security. Maybe they would all take the opposite view then? LOL...I really don't think so. They would embrace his opinions in that case, I'm afraid.
And don't forget that the word "peace", when used by these sorts, is merely a euphemism for "surrender".
A huge percentage of our own country's leftist base cares nothing (in theory) about the freedom they enjoy here. They wear Che t-shirts, support Fidel or call themselves Maoists. Boggles the mind. They just blow off the fact that the people have no freedom under these systems and could never protest as they do.
Had Churchill been successful in warning against the Nazis, and the British and French actually done something about Hitler, he'd probably have still be the butt of jokes -- an over-reacting, knee-jerk warmonger.
The lesson is: it ain't easy doing the right thing, especially when the right thing is hard to do. Stay the course, George -- history will validate your position, one way or the other.
Its not the message, its the man delivering it.
Yeah, but if they actually LIVED under these systems, then they wouldn't NEED to protest....;->

Earth shattering historical events tend to change paradigms and therefore ones outlook and mind. 9/11 brought in an entirely new synthesis.
It's clearly an issue of being educated and knowledgeable about the types of regimes you mention. Unfortunately the left just thinks they're cool, but have no concept of reality. They all suffer from low self-esteem so they simply want to belong to a group to feel better about themselves.
Actually, when used by these sorts, it's a euphemism for "support our enemies" and "attack America."
This guy is so right. So many folks love freedom, but then want someone to take on the responsibilities associated with it. Freedom is hard; freedom means maybe losing your job; freedom means having to confront people. Freedom is NOT sitting back and watching others pull your weight.
I think it may be both sadly.
Um, there's a reason the Left is so consistently enamored of tyrants -- that's how they plan to run things as soon as they can. The last thing they want is uppity peons thinking they're as good as anybody!
