UN pressed to adopt treaty on global gun tracing

Arms control activists urged U.N. treaty writers on Monday to approve a system for tracking small arms sales around the world, saying it was easier to track lost airline luggage than a machine gun.

Amnesty International, Oxfam International and the International Action Network on Small Arms called for a legally binding global marking and tracing treaty covering small arms and ammunition at the start of a two-week U.N. conference weighing how to deal with the problem.

"A piece of lost luggage can be traced from San Francisco to Sierra Leone within hours, yet deadly weapons disappear without trace on a daily basis," said Jeremy Hobbs, the director of Oxfam International.

A report by the three groups found that while weapons and ammunition often carry serial numbers, there is no worldwide system to record the information and make it available worldwide.

Nor are arms brokers -- middlemen who arrange arms sales across borders, putting them beyond the reach of most national governments -- required to register and report on their dealings in most countries.

That renders serial numbers "useless as a tool to identify, locate and trace illegal arms shipments," the groups said.

The UN makes a treaty, and it will become part of our laws. The treaty on migratory birds engendered the Endangered Species Act. The Australian American Free Trade agreement implements ILO standards for labor in the United States. Now this.

These losers can't even keep track of nuclear weapons labs. Now they want to trace small arms ammunition? Yeah, right.

Get the hell off of our soil, UN. Before we throw you out. And take your worthless treaties with your sorry asses.

Well Now here we are. The UN wants to control Small arms, small arms in the United States where the Citizen has a Constitutional right to bear arms. Now they don't want to take this right away, just keep track of them.

Slowly but surely our United States Constitution is being Undermined, our Guaranteed Constitutional rights are COMPROMISED AWAY!!

Enough is enough, NO COMPROMISE!!!

My 2¢'s about the UN?

Neal Boortz has the right idea- kick them off US soil, plop them down in Haiti, and tell them, "when you get this straightened out, give us a call..."

Moreover:

--Sex abuse charges rock UN in Congo-
-- Interesting this is being posted today. Talk show host Dennis Prager had the Israeli Ambassador to the UN, Doree Gold, on his show today. Mr. Gold has just written a book about the UN called the Tower of Babble(i think this was the title). Some of the things he was saying about the UN were unbelievable.

--TV campaign urging: Kick U.N. out of U.S.-
"I say we just give the entire country of Haiti to the UN."--or move them to Zimbabwe or another country in Africa. Let them see what the really do for the world.

--UN knew of Saddam's oil-for-food thefts: BBC-
The sooner we resign from this corrupt organization and kick them off our soil, the better.

Last summer the decision of the Assembly followed the recommendation of a group of governmental experts established by the Secretary-General to study the feasibility of developing an international instrument to enable States to identify and trace in a timely and reliable manner, illicit small arms and light weapons.

The Working Group will meet in New York three sessions of two weeks each, to conclude its work by June 2005.

Here is the timetable for substantive sessions (United Nations Headquarters in New York)

Second substantive session: 24 January to 4 February 2005 (20 meetings)
Third substantive session: 6 June to 17 June 2005 (20 meetings)

there is no worldwide system to record the information and make it available worldwide so that the information can be easily zip code sorted and put on a CD-ROM or the PDAs or cell phones of the Blue-Helmeted Storm Troopers when it's "the right time" to grab all private guns and round up the patriots and intellectuals.

Strange how they can't trace who all the corrupt people are in the UN who stole all that money and oil from Iraq.

Strange how they can't even produce an audit on where all the UN money goes.

But they want to trace a gun? Even Canadians with their billion dollar gun program can't do that, just imagine how much the UN will charge for a world wide program.

This looks like a repeat of the AP Land Mine Ban treaty. It is something impossible for the USA to do politiclly so the NGO's have another fund raising tool and a stick to beat Americans with their European contributors.

The original proposal (from France of course) was strictly related to handguns and the proposal also included a large tarriff on handgun sales to finance UN operations.

Of course, almost all handguns are made in the US. Almost all other weapons in the hands of terrorists and the French military are not handguns and are not made in the US.

It seems as though the proposal has now changed to include all small arms including anti-tank missiles and the tarriff proposal is dropped.

But you just have to know that there is "the fine print" (that France wrote of course) which is designed to harm the US and help the terrorists (who are unlikely to register their AK-47s in some UN database I'm sure.)

Buy guns without paperwork. Sell the guns you have with paperwork on them to private parties. Keep trading guns privately so that they are many steps from the original sale. Take up reloading. Stock up on reloading supplies. Learn basic gunsmithing skills. Buy armourers books and videos for the weapons you own. Pay cash!
