Bubba Clinton's [3rd Term] for Arnold?
US News and World Report ^ | January 31, 2005 | Paul Bedard

Washington Whipers

Here's the long shot of the year:

Congressional Democrats will okay a constitutional amendment allowing naturalized citizens like California Governor Arnold Schwarznegger to run for president if Republicans help kill the 22nd Amendment barring third terms, thus clearing the way for another bid by Bill Clinton and President Bush.

Right now its the talk of political strategists, but look for it to spread on Capitol Hill when US Senator Orrin Hatch re-introduces his plan to let naturalized citizens run for president after 20 years.

What a pile of garbage.

The democrats will OK as if it would be granting a favor to the Republicans? LOL

This is all chatter about things that will not happen.

Geez

I can't wait to see how many bite on this and get their undies in a knot.

No to naturalized and no to 3rd term.

Congress may propose and pass it, but then it goes to the states where good sense is more abundant than on Capitol Hill.

It's still a constitutional amendment.

So it doesn't matter what sort of cynical deal they make.

It ain't gonna' happen.

This is horse sh**. Not going to happen. These people act as if all the congress has to do is pass a bill and it will be done. Takes more than that on an amendment of the constitution.

Takes more than that on an amendment of the constitution.

If the states kill it, I'd expect activist judges to find a constitutional right to it...after all, the constitution is a living document according to these clymers.

1. We don't care that Arnold whateverhisname is cannot run for President.

DO-NOT-CARE.

2. If the 22nd were ever to be repealed (a good idea, BTW), it would have to except living former Presidents who had served two terms, or it wouldn't pass.

WOULD-NOT-PASS.

This is BS, but if were to happen then it would be time to overthrow the government.

I hate BOTH these ideas. Arnold can content himself with California. Clinton AND Bush can content themselves with 2 terms and that's it.

Washington is already a corruption factory - I don't want someone hanging around in the top job long enough to see what a President can really do when he goes BAD, BAD, BAD.

We don't need no stinking Saddams in the White House.

This whole stupid notion is a non-starter right from Jump Street. Constitutionally, if it were begun right now, Clinton would be too old - or dead if Hilary has her way - by the time is went into effect. Politically, Schwarzenegger is not even remotely palatable to the right and was only elected in California to debase Gray Davis and rub his face in the mud. And he was good for that, but he'll never go any further.

In 12 Step groups, they have a saying about "placing principle before personalities" and these idiots floating stupid ideas like this one should remember that when they start talking some kind of political horse trading over our Constitution.

No to both. If Arnold ever managed to get himself nominated, he would go down in flames because of his pro-abortion views.

Moreover, he has already put these views into practice by his eager support of fetal stem cell research. This massive atrocity is a new low for our country.

If we're talking third terms, how about we give billy jeff a kick in the pants and give GWB a third term? (Just kidding; it ain't gonna happen.)

What we need is term limits for Congress and the Judiciary.
Congress 4 - 2 year terms
Senate 2 - 6 year terms
Judges 1 - 10 year term at each level.

I agree that the constitution won't be changed, but if Arnold (hypothetically speaking) ran for president as a liberal Republican, he would win in a landslide. I live in Sacramento and follow the man closely. He has more charisma than any politician I have ever seen.
