The PURPOSE of the Party, if elected, will be to provide a "CHOICE" to all the residents and voters of BC to begin the diplomatic negotiations to become the 51st State of The United States of America. This will be accomplished with the "VOICE" and input of all the citizens of British Columbia and their

"Also, if Alberta and Puerto Rico were admitted as states, Alberta would get 4 House members, and PR would get 6 (assuming we expanded the House by 10 members)."

If both Alberta and PR were admitted, the House would expand by 10 members---until the next Census, that is. Pursuant to the law passed in 1912, the House has 435 members, and any expansion would add new members only temporarily, and it would go back to 435 at the next apportionment. Since the only states to be admitted after 1912 were Alaska and Hawaii, and since they each would have got only 1 Representative pursuant to the 1950 Census, the Reps for AK and HI grew the House to only 437 members from 1959 to January 1963, and the House was back to 435 members in Janyary of 1963 (when the Reps elected in November of 1962, the first election following the apportionment using numbers from the 1960 Census, took place).

If new states were admitted, especially states with more than one or two Reps, I think Congress should amend that 1912 law to expand the size of the House. Heck, even without new states being admitted, I think they should expand the House. One way in which it could be expanded without need to go back periodically to amend the law would be for the new law to say that the state with the lowest population (currently Wyoming with around 493,000) would get 1 Rep and other states would get the number of Reps that is the quotient of their population after dividing by the population of the least-populated state (rounding up if it is .50000000 or above and rounding down if it is less than .5), eliminating the current zero-sum game in which if NC gets an additional Rep UT can't get one. I estimate that this would yield 590 Representatives after the 2010 Census.

This'll make the maps look really funky if they get away with it.

Do you mean Lana Lang?

I always thought she was from Smallville, Kansas, not British Columbia. It has been a long time since I read a Superboy comic book tho.

Welcome to the United States of North America ...

The Canadians surrendered their national security to the USA starting sometime back in the '60's, with the creation and installation of the DEW Line of over-the-horizon early warning radar sites on the northern coast of Canada.

Today, the Canadian military is for all practical purposes, nonexistent.

Now, head south and take a look at the southern border's security problems. Without listing all the various problems here, consider that the most logical point of force location to close the border is not at the US-Mexico demarcation, but in Panama.

Jimmy Carter set back the national expansion plan by fifty years, by giving back the Panama Canal. In the past few years, his rhetoric gave the lie to his claim of patriotism, and he is now known for his socialist beliefs and the thought that peace and stability is preferable to freedom and liberty.

Vincente Fox and the State Department are working on a program where simply put, the social security and other benefit programs run by both governments are being slowly rationalized, with the intermediate goal of having the US government pay the benefits to Mexican citizens living here, and vice versa. This allows for a simple, bulk payment between governments to cover the differential costs between the two groups of recipients.

It also allows for what is nothing less than the social absorption of transient populations, and the eventual merging of the institutions of government. Dual citizenship is an interim possibility, and would - like it or not - solve most of the 'illegal' immigration of Mexican citizens into this country.

It's a National Security issue, or that is how it will be sold, over the next 25 years or so.

OK. Works for me.

I'll probably have a better feel for it once I've gotten my Canadian satellite system installed and activated (that is, after I can convince She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed that I "need" a Canadian system)...

I'll take Alberta and western Ontario (which is much more like us than the Toronto/Windsor lieberal-dominated eastern part).

I'm from the Interior of B.C. and we have never sent a Liberal to Ottawa yet. Our area is very Conservative. I have been for Western separation for a long time. Whether we joined the United States or not. Ralph Klien should be the leader of the Western Provinces that want out of Canada which is run by and elected by only two provinces anyway. One of them being Quebec!! I wouldn't take much convincing.

Well that's wonderful, but you should know that the Lower Mainland is to BC what Ontario and Quebec are to the rest of Canada. I'm a Western Separatist too, btw. If we could leave Vancouver, Victoria and the First Nations out of the deal, then it would be worth it.

I say, let BC in, but make Vancouver Island Land of Free Republic (this may require a Amphibious military invasion). We could colonize it, and make it a conservative paradise with 15% flat tax, no welfare, minimal Government and mandatory gun ownership.
