A day in the life of President Bush (1/22/05), many photos

The President, First Lady and their parents relaxed at the White House today. Former President GHW Bush visited the press corps on duty in the WH press briefing room.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: This week, Washington has been marked by pomp and circumstance. In a free nation, these ceremonies are more than pageantry. They underscore that public office is a public trust. America's elected leaders derive their authority from the consent of the American people, whom we serve. This is a high privilege, and that privilege carries a serious responsibility: to confront problems now, instead of passing them on to future generations.

As long as I hold this office, I promise that I will serve all Americans and will work to promote the unity of our great nation. And working together, we will secure the blessings of liberty, not only for ourselves, but for generations of Americans to come.

President George W. Bush, Presidential Radio Address, Jan. 22, 2005.

I read on another thread that the Bible was open to the chapter from Isaiah that has the line about 'for they shall rise up on the wings of eagles'.

The same reading was read at the National Prayer Service the next day. If the President chose that passage for both services, it must be very meaningful to him.

I get a charge out of all the cops and agents running alongside the limo, and the emergency vehicles all flashing their lights, and the small army of agents on the running boards.

Yes, I got chills when I saw all the agents on the running boards, too! To think that they would sacrifice their lives for our President is very moving and makes me hate the loonies who make all that security necessary!

Feinman, Alter -- you're right. It's easy to get confused. But I'm glad you heard that comment. Totally idiotic. As for the photo in #9, yes, that's such a powerful image. Says more than any words can about the relationship between the two men.

I wonder if you could tell me how to find an older picture of Mrs Bush from 1st term.

You are right. Her hairstyle has been refined, updated, and highlighted. I'll see what I can do about finding a photo for you. I'm sure there's got to be one out on the WH website. If I find a suitable one, I'll post it on tomorrow's dose.

Here's a couple more that you might be interested in--

The latter isn't really about the Secret Service, but it contains some great stories from past and present agents.

Now good night! (I mean it this time :)

That's part of the reason I don't know the best places to find photos for them.

I'm honored by your presence on the thread today, DoughtyOne. I hope you didn't misunderstand my comments about looking elsewhere than Yahoo for photos? Only meant it conversationally.

Do you know what verse, or Chapter perhaps, it is, that is so precious to our President that he would cover it with his hand when taking his Presidential Oath of Office?

Unfortunately, no, Republic. If it was mentioned anywhere, I missed it.

jonny, thanks so much for the list of books on the Secret Service. I read a lot of books. Perhaps I can get my hands one one of these.

Those are great pictures. I'm amazed at how few pictures there are of the people who attended the parties.

I'm also struck that Jenna is looking at Rehnquist while her sister, Barbara, is looking at their dad with such a loving gaze.

DoughtyOne, for some reason the following didn't post correctly the first time:

That wide angle shot is extremely interesting, DoughtyOne. I recognize most of the people in that shot. Interesting how even the rich and powerful can become little more than tourists at such a moment. Look and the number of people in that shot taking photos. Frist on the left, Jeb on the right, and I see all or part of about four other cameras pointing at the scene.

I'm also struck that Jenna is looking at Rehnquist while her sister, Barbara, is looking at their dad with such a loving gaze.

Good night, all. It's nearly 9:00pm Pacific time. Have to go feed the dogs and settle in for the night. To those living in the blizzard areas, be safe.

Here's a photo taken of the then new First Lady just about exactly four years ago. It should prove your point about her hairstyle.

Thanks. No offense taken at all. I understood what you were trying to say.

There are actually some fairly good photo links at the top of the following Washington Post page.

The specific image to click on was top center, the President with Laura.

You don't have to sign in to view the one I mentioned.

You can bypass the add by clicking. Then there are three topics toward the top of the pop-up window that provide some nice shots.

Topics are Inauguration Day, Inauguration Balls and Past Inaugurations.

There's also a blog link to an extensive photo gallery.

You and I keyed in on the exact same observations regarding the holders of the focused cameras and who the girls were looking at. I was interested to see Rhenquist. In the photo, he holds up rather well.

check this out also...

Blog Page (Washington Post) for 2005 Bush Inauguration

No sign-in required.

There are eleven pages with two to five photos per page.

The President and Mrs. Bush dancing on a large rendition of the Presidential seal. I'd love to have a larger version.
