A day in the life of President Bush (1/22/05), many photos

The President, First Lady and their parents relaxed at the White House today. Former President GHW Bush visited the press corps on duty in the WH press briefing room.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: This week, Washington has been marked by pomp and circumstance. In a free nation, these ceremonies are more than pageantry. They underscore that public office is a public trust. America's elected leaders derive their authority from the consent of the American people, whom we serve. This is a high privilege, and that privilege carries a serious responsibility: to confront problems now, instead of passing them on to future generations.

As long as I hold this office, I promise that I will serve all Americans and will work to promote the unity of our great nation. And working together, we will secure the blessings of liberty, not only for ourselves, but for generations of Americans to come.

President George W. Bush, Presidential Radio Address, Jan. 22, 2005.

**Me too! I hate that the liberals thought that just because we're conservatives we would hate Mary Cheney because she's gay.**

I think that was debunked after the VP and final Presidential Debate when the Conservatives/Republicans were outraged at the low class crass comments of Edwards and Kerry. Maybe thats why we have not had any flack because they realise it would have a reverse effect.

I had not noticed that but once you had pointed it out it is obvious she is graceful.

Yeah, that's exactly what annoyed me. And it's not like everyone didn't already KNOW. The VP himself had already mentioned it before that. I don't know why they thought that would accomplish anything but it just reaffirmed my belief that they would try anything to get elected.

The dimwit whined that it made us look like a "banana republic." (Don't remember for, but think it was Jonathan Alter.)

Not Alter but I believe it was Feinman. SO many whining dimwits; so easy to get confused.

First photo in #9 shows a meeting of the mind between two men who read one another so well that little conversation is necessary.

The young woman appeared shy and overwhelmed.

She did indeed (can't blame her) and the young man was also a bit stiff.

Frankly that lovely, kind jesture at their final ball left me in a puddle of tears. What a finale and so unexpected.

Sooooo..........I just got back from Phantom of the Opera. VERY good!

kitkat, this is my evaluation. The Phantom's voice is richer than Michael Crawford's, more baritony, if you will, but he had some occasional pitch problems that bothered me at first. As his acting got more dramatic, I think his singing got better too. I was impressed with him, and very much so at the end.

I was actually the most disappointed in Christine, who has a wonderful voice but weaved in and out of tonal purity at the wrong times, and had a problem with breathiness when it didn't fit the song.

Raul's voice was magnificent for the role, the ensemble singing was superb, and IMO, the staging of "Masquerade" was almost up to 1930's MGM standards........which is saying something!

Why now??? He did the same thing in 2001 when the Texas Longhorn band went by and not a peep.

Hi Kath, I'm just getting back to the thread after having gone out to the meeting I had to attend.

Answers: First, perhaps because they're paying closer attention now. Four years ago, nobody in Europe took GWB seriously. Second, perhaps because it's become habit by now. Nothing the man does can meet with Euro-Left approval.
