About 6 a.m. Friday, investigators say, Williams pulled into the Mountain View RV Park in Bowie driving Holden's pickup truck. He went inside a convenience store on the property where he pulled out a gun and demanded money, said Carol Capas, a spokeswoman for the Cochise County Sheriff's Department.
"He said, 'This is robbery. I want all the money in the cash register,' " store worker Richie Chapman said. "And as he said that, he drew a weapon from underneath his shirt, and I drew and fired."
"If he had gotten a shot off, I would have been dead," said Chapman, a retired New York firefighter who carries a .45-caliber automatic. "And I have no qualms about it, that I think he would have shot me."
Chapman "felt threatened, and pulled out his own gun and shot the man one time," Capas said.
Investigators said Williams ran to the truck and drove away. A short time later, as he traveled east on Interstate 10, Williams pulled over and began flagging down passing motorists.
When deputies arrived at the area where Williams was flagging down motorists, they were told by someone that the man had driven himself to Northern Cochise Community Hospital in Willcox.
Capas said Williams was treated at the hospital before being released to FBI agents Friday.

Love that second amendment!
It just goes to show - with extensive quick-draw practice, you might even be able to outgun even a trained Marine (or crazed drug addict for that matter). People shouldn't underestimate the role a firearm can play in their own safety IF they practice and practice and practice.
This is assumed to be the bastard that shot that 19-year old WalMart clerk who was missing. May he roast.
May the perp ride the lightning!
Too bad the retired FDNY firefighter didn't give the scumbag the "eternal dirtnap".
He gave him a wonderful parting gift.
Hmm a .45 caliber automatic Wow, where can I get one?? All I can find is those dang semi-automatic ones.
THE DUMBASS SHOULD HAVE JUST WENT A FEW HUNDRED MORE MILES TO THE LEFT, IN CALIFORNICA AND HE COULD HAVE GOTTEN AWAY WITH MURDER. LITERALLY!
Now, this evil doer will have a chance to tell the left wing media what a terrible chikdhood he had, how folks are against hime because he is a retarded fairy and that whitey has always been out to get him. A trial always runs the risk of being overturned because there weren't enough left handed Lituanians on the jury. The left wing will side with this killer because he murdered an evil Walmart employee. No, I would have preferred that Richie used his one round more effectively!
Thompson makes a nice one, of course concealed carry is a little difficult especially with the drum mag!
Perfectly acceptable terminology since fully automatic pistols are a rarity.

I suspect that if he had known who this perp was, you'd have got your wish.
In an interview on local TV last night, the ex-NYFD guy referred to his piece as "...an excellent attitude adjustment tool." LOL. Another local mentioned that this place had never been robbed, because every one who lived around there knew the clerk carried.
This guy was a preditory animal; not even human. It's a shame the bullet didn't find the brain. Oh well, he'll be tried and sentenced in Texas, so he'll probably get his due. |
I used to shoot the .45 competitively when I was in the service. Practiced at an indoor range. The ceiling was pocked with ricochet marks from .45ACP rounds from the occasional times when the piece went full-auto on a whim!
Happened to me once and when you don't expect it, the dang weapon just marches up with each succeeding round until the magazine is empty - and the piece is pointed up about 45 degrees.
Certain parts in the action get too worn, and that first trigger pull is all it takes for a POWPOWPOWPOWPOWPOWPOW! experience.
