Bush Caught Empty-Handed During Church Offering

President Rarely Carries Wallet

POSTED: 2:35 pm EST January 21, 2005 UPDATED: 2:49 pm EST January 21, 2005

WASHINGTON -- President George W. Bush, who rarely carries a wallet, is caught empty-handed when the offering plate came around during a church service.

It happened during Friday's national prayer service in Washington.

Vice President Dick Cheney quickly offered some cash.

However, Bush refused and instead accepted help from his dad, former President George H.W. Bush.

First lady Laura Bush also produced some cash for the collection plate.

According to those close to the president, Bush rarely carries a wallet or cash.

Clinton would have just raised taxes on the next three rows to pay for his 'donation.'

Of course, this would be a non-story for Dems, whose frequenting of churches drops off sharply after election years. Afterall, they would hardly want to patronize "the enemy."

It was really kind of endearing to watch...you could tell exactly what each one of them was thinking and totally relate...and I think the Bush daughters got help from Barbara, too.

Bill Clinton got a blow job from Monica Lewinsky after Palm Sunday services and the press was quiet.

Whatever they can do to throw stones. I wish that the peanut gallery in America's newsrooms would STFU.

Too bad W didn't master church charades, including Clintonesque lip-biting, Bible-toting, and fake tears. /sarcasm

Hey, I'm never caught without money in church. Last week when they passed the plate I managed to get a 20 and two 10's....

I can't imagine not carrying a wallet. My entire life is in there.

I mail a check to my parish at the beginning of each year which covers my entire annual donation. I never put anything in the collection plate because of this. I would have made the assumption that the president did something similar. BTW, I almost never carry a wallet or money either.

Let us know if that changes when you're president :-)

Laura and Dad ponied up. What's the problem.

My wife and I were just talking yesterday about the last time W acually had to pay for anything himself. He's the President. He has people that do that.

(singing)And the sign said everybody welcome, come in, kneel down and pray
But when they passed around the plate at the end of it all,
I didn't have a penny to pay,
so I got me a pen and a paper and I made up my own little sign
I said thank you Lord for thinking about me, I'm alive and doing fine

This is just too good! The left media that neither beleives in God, nor the bible, nor beleives in going to church, would raise condemnation on Bush for not having cash to give in the offering plate and his refusal to let his father cover for him.

Sounds like the pharisees condemning Christ's disciples because they didn't fast and pray like the pharisees or John the Baptist's disciples did.

Both were attempts to damage, and marginalize the faith of followers of Christ in the eyes of others rather than instruct in the way of truth.

My wife handles the checkbook and we go to separate services because we have small noisy babies at home. I don't even worry for a second when I pass it along without dropping something in. It's not really anyone else's business anyway.

Typical BS...I give a check once a month to my church and not during the service itself. So they could say the same about me and be totally wrong. This is a non-story. It would be interesting to compare the last few presidents and see who had the largest charitable deductions.

Actually, someone should've prepared the offering envelope in advance. But he was "covered" when Laura put her contribution in the basket (the family contribution).
