OSLO, Norway — President Bush's "Hook 'em, 'horns" salute got lost in translation in Norway, where shocked people interpreted his hand gesture during his inauguration as a salute to Satan.

That's what it means in the Nordic countries when you throw up the right hand with the index and pinky fingers raised, a gesture popular among heavy metal groups and their fans in the region.

There is a difference between what GWB did and the Satanic type of hand gesture popular among head bangers.

The 'hook 'em horns' salute has the thumb coming up to cover the two middle fingers....extending only the index finger and the pinky.

The so-called Satanic hand gesture has the thumb and two middle fingers extended and meeting at the tips with the index and pinky fingers extended up...to create a facsimile of the head of a goat.

What GWB did, as pictured was the 'hook 'em horns' salute.

The Devil is in the details.

Yelling "ROCK AND ROLL!!!" while doing it would mean one thing.

I have a sneaky suspicion that this is an MSM fueled debate to separate Americans and Norwegians. If an educated Norwegian knows that the "hookem horns" hand signal is all about American football, then how could a reasonable person get upset? It's just a sports fan gesture.
