World media: Bush inaugural a jolt

Emphasis on freedom still takes unilateral road alienating foreign press. By Jim Bencivenga | csmonitor.com

Presidential inauguration speeches, especially in time of war, spark intense personal and political passions. The press is not immune to this tendency. But the press has an outlet in editorials, commentaries, and individual columns.

Prior to Pres. George Bush's speech, the world was keen to see whether the American president intended to go ahead with a unilateral or multilateral road in foreign policy.

So when Mr. Bush made it clear on Thursday that he was not about to "turn back from his doctrine of taking pre-emptive action, in the interests of American security (or, as he would put it, American freedom)" as the BBC characterized his speech, there was little room for noted British understatement in the headline of the Beeb's stellar roundup – "World press electrified by Bush vision."

'Hold on to your hats, this may be the most ambitious presidency ever.' That's the message from one Israeli paper [Haaretz] after President George W. Bush's inauguration – a message echoed across the world's press................

The greater the press' reaction against President Bush, the greater the truths that he speaks. We are fortunate that we have President Bush at the helm of the nation. I shake with terror when I think that the likes of a terrry Kerry would have been our leader. Uhg!!!!

The reactions here and abroad make certain what we have long suspected: Liberals cannot accept policies which encourage or increase freedom.

It's nice to see truly fair and balanced journalism. This article reported, and did not seem to me to spin or promote an agenda.

The rest of the MSM could take a lesson from this. I don't think either conservatives or liberals are likely to be embittered by a news story if it were patently obvious that the press merely reported raw facts.

To quote Eddie Murphy: "Maybe instead they should just have a Coke and a smile and STFU"

My favorite quote:

Much more empathetic with the Bush administration's take on history, the Times of London editorialized:

The US will continue to regard the threat posed by radical Islamists, the dangers of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and the behavior of rogue states such as North Korea with more urgency than France and Germany. These countries should ask themselves whether their assessment of these perils is so much more modest because of evidence, or the inconvenience that acknowledging their intensity would entail. They might also ponder what it is about the promotion of freedom that they regard as so alien and objectionable.

A real journalist. Rare these days.

'Hold on to your hats, this may be the most ambitious presidency ever.' That's the message from one Israeli paper [Haaretz] after President George W. Bush's inauguration – a message echoed across the world's press.

This is why we voted for him. LOL I still laugh that people believe they can box him into a corner. This man is going to be the instigator of change well beyond his term of office. He will never be a 'lame duck'.

One Polish paper heralds the speech as the dawn of a conservative revolution

WooHoo! They get it! It isn't just G.W. Bush that means what he says. This is what we voted for, and we are going to make a differnce not mark time.

The CS monitor is as "fair and balanced" as it gets, both right vs. left and international vs. ntional.

Like Abe Lincoln, GW Bush will stay focused on the prize, and accomplishing the mission. This President is a man of action, and once he has come to terms in his own mind, he is on his way, regardless of the idiots in the Democrat Party and the fools around the world. As Davey Crockett used to say, "Be sure your're right, and then go ahead!!!"

We heard Kerry say what he would do:

Call to the Conference Table every European leader;
give everyone a chance to speak their piece, cajole,
comply, bribe. At the end of the day, he would lead
them in a self-congratulatory mode as they continue
long the usual do-nothing tack. This Liberal stance
is exactly what the U.N. has been doing at ITs meetings
for the past 15 years. Meanwhile, the Terrorists would proceed along THEIR usual BLOW-UP-Everything tack which THEY've been doing the last 15 years!

Gotta love the Chinese Daily's editorial. It's practically dripping with irony. It's hillarious that a dictatorship can lecture on things like "forcing democracy" on people, when it is forcing oppression on IT's people. Given a choice, I think the Chinese people would tell the Chinese Daily to piss off.

After four years, they still weren't sure? Kinda slow on the uptake aren't they?

Thats my opinion also.

Stop spending my tax money as global cop. It's just another form of bigger government.

Secure our own borders with the money and let the rest of the world take care of its self.

Oh, and give me back the change
