If you are interested in trying Linux, download the Knoppix ISO image and burn it to CD.

Knoppix boots from CD and does not require installation on your hard drive and autoconfigures all your hardware.

It's a good thing to have around if your Windows box quits working. Boot Knoppix and you can get on the Internet or rescue important files from your hard drive.

I posted this mainly for those lurkers who insist on calling Linux a "company," and that someone will sue "Linux" someday, etc.

This is a pretty good article explaining how the whole process and community works.

I think you can do the same thing with the latest Suse releases.

Never tried it myself, becasue it's so easy to install.

Knoppix, be a man and install Debian. It may be the hardest single thing to install, but when it's running, you never have to worry about it again. Plus, apt-get has to be the most powerful utility in Linux. I know other version of Linux now have similar features, but Debian has the largest repository of programs available to it.

If you are interested in trying Linux, download the Knoppix ISO image and burn it to CD.

I'm not interested in downloading a 650 MB file on a dialup connection.

Hey, that's a nice distro! It took a long while to download all that data, but it came right up once I got the CD burned and booted. Got the internet connection up surprisingly fast (I'm using it right now).

Thanks a million, E Pluribus.
