Editorial: Poverty/Rising needs must be met (more blue state whining from the Star & Sickle)

Archbishop Harry Flynn, the spiritual leader of Twin Cities Catholics, and Bishop Peter Rogness, the head of St. Paul's Lutheran Synod, spent Wednesday afternoon with some of Minnesota's poorest citizens, touring a health-care clinic on St. Paul's west side, chatting with toddlers at a child-care center and serving a meal at Loaves and Fishes. It was a powerful statement by two of the state's most influential clerics, but it also sent a much-needed message at a time when Minnesota is retreating from its neediest citizens.

As the Legislature begins grappling with the third state budget deficit in as many years, there is endless talk at the Capitol about the rising cost of government. But as Rogness argues, in an analysis that is dazzling for its moral and intellectual clarity, rising costs often reflect rising needs.

The RC Church would have had plenty to give if they didn't have to payout settlements because of pedo priests.

I read that too.

I have no idea why I even bother to read the Red Star's editorial pages anymore.

All it does is rile me up.

BTW, did you read the Red Star's slam job on Condi Rice?
Incredibly disgusting...even by the Red Star's low standards.

End welfare. Make the Demorats pay their own way.

I have high hopes that in this term the deadbeats on benefits will finally feel the bite of reality on their a$$es.

Social Security should only be the start, 'privatize' the lot and get the sad-half of this country off their behinds and into something productive. I am sick an tired of my taxes going to pay for losers who either won't find work or, when they have it, refuse to save for the future. I mean, what are we, a nation of infants?

The Minnesota legislature is at least starting to move to let the welfare parasites wither on the vine. But the wishy-washy Catholics and Lutherans have to step in to keep the swine alive. This is a classic case of misplaced priorities.

The welfare parasites should be dragooned and strapped to military vehicles in Iraq, so that their worthless bodies can do some good by absorbing shrapnel and saving the lives and limbs of our brave soldiers.
