RobbinsMIAMI -- Former Pro Bowl center Barret Robbins, who was shot by a detective investigating a burglary call, was charged Wednesday with three counts of attempted felony murder.

Miami Beach police found Robbins Saturday night inside an administrative office at a building housing a nightclub, gym and jewelry store.

Robbins also was charged with two counts of attempting to deprive an officer of his weapon, two counts of resisting an officer with violence and trespassing.

Police said Detective Mike Muley shot him during a struggle. Robbins was critically injured. Muley received hospital treatment for minor head injuries.

The former Oakland Raiders lineman was arrested in December in San Francisco for hitting a security guard at a nightclub. The Raiders cut him last July for testing positive for steroids.

He suffers from bipolar disorder and alcoholism.

He suffers from bipolar disorder and alcoholism.

Sounds like he was off his meds and hitting the bottle. In a manic state, he might have felt invulnerable and thought nothing of just a cop or two.
I'm sure the NFL has wonderful resources that he could take advantage of were he to regain a semblance of his right mind.

Poor guy. All he had was a million dollar plus contract to play a game for crying out loud. Now he tries to kill a cop and blame it on not taking his meds?

I'm crying more phoney tears than Babs Boxer right now.

In a phase of heightened mania, he would definitely not be deemed rational. He could mount a successful insanity defense given his mental history.

Whew. Say "Raiders center" and I immediately think of Jim Otto. Glad it's not him.

They've never been to the Super Bowl. The "Riders", i.e., Saskatchewan Rough Riders, play in the CFL. They last won the Grey Cup in 1989, and last played in the title game in 1997.

Why was he there? Who did he try to murder? This story is deficient.

It seems that is what happened, not that I am excusing his behaviour. He was arrested in SF in December for punching out a bouncer or bartender.

This Sunday, or Monday, on ESPN tv, they did a piece on some ex-Steeler who was killed in a crash this past September..he had been exhitbiting all the signs of BP, was not taking meds, and ended up ramming into an 18wheeler as he was driving up to NY.

Very sad...many people with BP disorder who take meds then feel like they are back in control of their lives, that they can go on without the medication, so they go off their medication. I am pretty sure that is what I had read about Barrett Robbins...he had been on the meds, then went off.

Yep, 2003.

Superbowl XXXVII

As a long suffering Bucs fan, it was a great game.

Actually, the Raiders were very close to playing
in three straight Super Bowls from 2001 - 03.
They ended up losing to the eventual champs twice,
and getting screwed by the officials against the
eventual champs the other time.

2001 AFC Championship Game in Oakland: Lost to Ravens
when QB Rich Gannon was knocked out early in 1st half.

2002 AFC Divisional Playoffs in NE: Lost to Patriots
in the infamous "Snow Job" game on one of the worst
calls in NFL history.

2003 Super Bowl: Lost to Tampa Bay after Barrett
Robbins went crazy the night before.
