New York Times gets the Bum Rush at Walter Reed
Posted on 01/19/2005 11:11:26 AM PST by wtc911
Contacts at WRAMC tell me that reporters from the NYT were ejected from the post yesterday after walking around and interviewing recovering soldiers. The Times people entered the facility unannounced, uninvited and unescorted. They were "asked" to leave when the PAO found out what they were up to. It is unlikely they will be invited back.

Excellent! It will make no difference in their coverage, but at least they were treated as they deserve.
We could win the media war in a few months if people quit treating these people like they are celebrities. They need to be booed as they pass through airports, mocked when they attempt their on-site reports.
Not only should they not be given preference in seating at restaurants, they should be seated by the kitchen or the restrooms. Drycleaners should tell them that they just can't get those spots out, sorry. Hairdressers and barbers should make them wait an extra week for appointments, so that their roots show. Cabbies should drop them off a block from their actual destination, especially if it is pouring down rain.
Ejecting them from Walter Reed like common trespassers is an excellent start. Good work, Walter Reed officials!!

What difference does it make? The NYT folks will just make stuff up no matter whether they've talked to those with knowledge or not. Yep.

I was wondering how the hell the got onto the hospital grounds in the first place. I haven't been there since the 60s, but even then an MP checked for vehicle stickers at the gate. I guess back then a person could walk in, but I can't imagine that being true today.

Must have been the second string 'reporters'. Any reporter with any short and curlies on his/her a&^ would be at the front 'reporting'...not at home trying to make political capital out of a soldier's pain and misfortune. Jackasses!

Ejecting them from Walter Reed like common trespassers is an excellent start. Good work, Walter Reed officials!!True, but it would have been a nice training exercise to process them through the "unauthorized person / possible terrorist on campus" drill. Maybe a little waterboarding, some nudity ... oops, now I have to go spend 15 minutes with John McCain.
