Kerry might not have 'taken on' Dr. Rice in the same way Boxer did; but he DID manage to be both smarmy and condescending toward her at the same time.
The pompous Senator Lurch was especially revolting when he kept telling Dr. Rice how much he was "impressed" by Dr. Rice's "life story" -- but then announced that he refused to deign to "vote to ratify [her] life story."
If it had been a Republican saying something so self-importantly snobbish as this to a black Dimocratic nominee, he would've been run out of the Senate on a rail for being a rich white racist.
