I believe they are heat seekers - to shoot down missles. Can't remember the name of the unit, but I think they are the same type of units we sold to Israel - and Israel's enemies stopped trying to shoot missles at them.

I think those guys have been there since 9/12/2001.
That's a Humvee mounted Stinger launcher. My son got to play with one, with some recruiters at Road Atlanta a couple years ago.

You can see the remote sight for the Stinger launcher on the Humvee below his left elbow.
The guys with the Humvee were tracking the camera choppers at the race, for giggles.

Well, not those exact same guys in the same place ;-)
But AA in one form or another. I think Clinton even put a couple guys with Stingers on a building top near the White House after that one nutcase tried flying a Cessna into it.

There you go talking all crazy again! [/sarcasm]. My feeling is that it should get to the point where an American can walk down any street in the world with his passport extended in front of him as complete protection from terrorist attack.
Over the years, I've become less concerned about countries respecting us and more interested in them fearing us. Attacks on our citizens should receive such a ruthless, violent response that developing countries will ensure Americans travel about without problems. It's harsh, but how does a civilized society otherwise draw a line in the sand?
