WASHINGTON -- Senator Edward M. Kennedy said yesterday that President Bush's Iraq policy is ''ridiculous" and disputed Bush's statement that the 2004 reelection validated the war. Iraq is ''Bush's Vietnam," Kennedy said.
Bush, in an interview with The Washington Post published yesterday, said, ''The American people listened to different assessments made about what was taking place in Iraq, and they looked at the two candidates, and chose me."
Kennedy, asked about Bush's comment on CBS's ''Face The Nation," noted that then-President Lyndon Johnson was easily reelected during the Vietnam War but did not seek reelection in 1968. ''Look what happened," Kennedy said. ''Lyndon Johnson had to basically abdicate the presidency because of Vietnam. . . . This is clearly George Bush's Vietnam."
Bush, in the interview with the Post, said he wanted to withdraw troops ''as quickly as possible," but he did not express agreement with a statement by departing Secretary of State Colin L. Powell that troops could begin coming home later this year.

The writer, Michael Kranish, spent an awful lot of time under John Kerry's desk. I'm guessing he puts on a blue dress for Teddy too.
I did a search with the title, as shown and nothing appeared. Not my fault it was posted incorrectly before, friend.
Somebody tell the swimmer that the Vietnamese have yet to get their Constitution or open democratic vote, it remains a single party system, the commie party. Now one would think that Teddy would know that.
Like many Democrats, Kennedy refuted Bush's oft-repeated statement that the Social Security system is in crisis. Kennedy said that taxpayers eventually would receive three-fourths of the benefits if no changes are made, but that the system can be restored by raising payroll taxes.
And raising them and raising them and raising them. This, along with raising the retirement age, is called "tinkering around the edges" boys and girls, and it won't work.
I say we get Mark Furman to look into the whole Mary Jo Kapeckne Chappaquidic scandal like he did the murder of Martha Moxley by Kennedy cousin Michael Skakel
This isn't new. The press keeps repeating the same 'ol tired attacks thinking it will yield different results.
Who started Vietnam Senator Kennedy?
Say we were to give you concession it was a repeat of 'Nam, G.W. is not a repeat of Kennedy, LBJ or Nixon. Public opinion, anti-war hippies, traitorous politicians nor DEM propaganda driven networks will result in this war being lost. Iraq will be what you denied the Vietemese. Free.
I concede nothing. Iraq is a vital piece in the WOT, not a "quagmire"
The election centered around the WOT. Kerry Lost. G.W. won. He not only won he increased his lead greatly over 200 and increased seats in House and Congress. The majority chose G.W. over the "Global test" candidate.
I thought he said "Georges Bush..." like an idiot. The press is covering for him again.
Every time that silly sot opens his liberal mouth he leaves himself wide open to the question that NOBODY from the media has the guts to ask him: why haven't the results of the inquest to Chapaquiddick been opened to the public?
He must be confronted with this question publicly by SOMEBODY before this graceless buffoon exits from public life.
Actually, Vietnam was Kerry's Chappaquiddick
See, Kennedy -- always a great wordsmith -- says (get ready) that Iraq is just like ... are you sitting down? ... Vietnam!!!
Do you see the genius? This is, like, linking Bush to the big divisive issue of the 60's! Get it? Wow! What genius!!
I'm just amazed no one else ever said such a thing. But Ted has finally made this all-important connection. Headline news indeed!!
hmmm- there is no statute of limitation on murder, is there?
the only success the socialists have had is to hijack the democratic party. It took them 30 years, but they have done it....only to see all that "success" go up in smoke again in 2000 and then, their last shot, 2004.
teddy boy knows he's not going to last long enough to ever see a U.S.S.A (United Socialist States of America.) It seems to be driving him over the edge - well, come to think of it, he's experienced with driving over the edge, isn't he.
If Iraqi = Vietnam then
T. Kennedy = J. Fonda
He killed a woman. She was probably alive when he ran and called his laywer, he probably could've saved her life instead of covering his own tail. Yet he stomps around earth like a caricature, spouting the worst stuff and is a respected 'old lion' of the DUmmy party. If a young woman hadn't died it would be laughable. I hope, when he dies, the angels roll out 3 large screen plasma TVs so God can have a private screening with Senator Walrus.
Reaching for yet another strained metaphor, Senator Kennedy said that "This whole war on terrorism business is Georges Bush's Chappaquiddick. This President should roll down the window of the sinking Oldsmobile of Iraq, wriggle out, and swim to safety while he still has the chance. Yes, even if it means the loss of Mary Jo, or in the case of the Iraqi people 26 million Mary Jo's, he must act in such a way as to preserve his own political viability. I am confident that Americans will be just as understanding of Georges as were the local authorities of me on that fateful day lo these many years ago."
