What a cool idea.....isolate the leftist whackjobs! I think this approach could also work for SF, Seattle, Portland, and other blue state strongholds!
To: nickcarraway
Better yet, become your own little filthy third world country.
To: nickcarraway
Oh please, please, please do this NYC! And then the 50 states could vote on whether or not we would accept you as a state. Our problems with that infestation of blue cockroaches could be solved with that vote.
To: nickcarraway
It will never happen NYC would be bankrupt within a couple of years or less if left to stand on it`s own.
The libs from downstate would realize that would split the presidential electoral vote as well thus hurting the dems.

Transparant attempt by liberals to gain two more Democratic Senators.

The gravy train from the Upstate Tax Slaves would end and they would be belly-up within a year. Never happen.

But it's possible that upstate NY would be red.

F that. We'd give them two Senators. I'd only be for that if we can realign EVERY state by population again, and got a bunch of extra Senators as a result.
I do think, however, that instead of apportioning the House at a maximum of 435 Reps, we should never have capped the membership. Having only 435 Reps means that the House is nowhere as responsive as the people's representative body that it was meant to be.

I'm from the upstate gravy train and think it would be the best thing to ever happen to this state. Most of us up here are red blooded not blue blooded.

What makes you think that more of them would result in greater responsiveness? I suspect it would only result in a bigger federal payroll.

What a cool idea.....isolate the leftist whackjobs! I think this approach could also work for SF, Seattle, Portland, and other blue state strongholds! It's an idiotic idea on a par with giving DC statehood. Think two more left of Castro Senators. Now if they were to withdraw from the US altogether that would be cause to rejoice.

Maybe we should donate the northeast corner of NJ to the new state, and maybe Camden, too. Then NJ would go red along with upstate New York. We would gain two senators that way.

I would never increase the number of reps--to justify their existence they would pass more laws. We need to reduce not expand their number.

Bingo, the rest of the state votes Republican. So from a politcal standpoint, this would help the republican party in naional elections and lower their tax burdon. But anyone who thinks its a good idea to carve up a state on demographics or ideology needs their head examined. NYC needs to dig itself out of its tax problems - statehood is not the answer.

Well gee, why don't they solve the healthcare problems by outlawing death?
There is no legal method to secede.

Think about the relief and advances in freedom those states could see, without the constant overweening dominance of the Left. They would actually have representation! Imagine a WA State that could seat a state supreme court that had members from all over the state, instead of just a small sliver of the western part of the state. Imagine the strengthened hand of the CA governor not hampered by the nannystate self-interest of SF. All the while, the Governor, etc. of City-State would be taxing their residents to death....causing them to flee outside their borders for relief.
I guess I'm looking at this from a closer-to-the-people perspective. I suppose I should take into account that we've become completely federal-focused. My bad.

These people are dreaming... the aim is to create Blue City State Senators. They think the GOP will commit hara-kiri by going along with this scheme of theirs. HAHAHAHAHA
