I disagree with you. The Catholic Church has stood all alone for many years against contraception, abortion, euthenasia, homosexuality, etc. even when these were not popular.

Why do you think the Catholic Church is everyone's (including yours) target?

because this storym mentions the Catholic Church, this thread belongs in the religion ghetto section of FR, like all other news with any hint of Catholic involvement or Catholic themes.

The Nazis passed several million people who "prayed" through the chimneys. Others who didn't take the situation seriously, found themselves dead as well. Until such time that people DO take the situation seriously, things like this will continue.

Iraq is an unmitigated disaster. Sorry folks, but it has to be said.

We've found no weapons, lost over 1,300 Americans and unleashed an Islamic insurgency which is making life hell for the Christians in Iraq. Oh, and America is not any safer for it.

Who cares whether Iraq is "democratic"? Secular democracy is the false god of the atheists and humanists. Of all the countries in the Middle East, Iraq was one of the safest for Christians who were allowed to go about their business.

Not any more.

Next time, listen to the Pope, instead of telling him to shut the *#*! up.

Iraq is an unmitigated disaster.

I agree 1000%. The truth that nobody wants to face is that unless we indefinitely continue to contribute American treasure and dead bodies into the meat grinder, Iraq becomes a secular or Islamic thug heaven.

Take your pick, Muslim dictatorship or dictator dictatorship. The moment we leave that's what we're left with.

Truth is we never had an exit strategy. Even if we did, who are we leaving Iraq to? The vast majority of the population are either Sunnis, Shiites, Bathists or maybe Kurds. None of the former are willing or capable of running any type of democratic society.

Surely +Chrysostomos was given a warm welcome to heaven!! Thank you for sharing that story. It is truly frightening to see the level of persecution to christians throughout history. After a lull, the battle now resumes.

>>>>>I also have disputes with the Church - I don't think it does enough to defend Catholics against Muslim attacks, mostly because of the left-wing sympathies of many in the European and American heirarchy.

The Pope was strongly against the War in Iraq. One reason for this opposition was most likely his greater knowledge of the situation facing the Christians who lived there, and how that situation would likely worsen after an invasion of Iraq, as indeed it has.

I know of an elderly nun who has told me that they have or had a thriving convent over in Iraq, and she spouted a button that said "I have friends in Iraq" when the war started....

she is not radical at all, very loving, and probably doesn't know the whole story....

sometimes missionaries or nuns or the like look at the world they WANT to exist rather than the reality....

how could they be blind to the mass killings and the torture going on in Iraq?

Christians are at a disadvantage because we are supposed to be peace loving.....

how long can we stay Christian?....I ask that honestly....

There are estimated 1 billion Catholics worldwide. If the Muslims want to provoke a Crusade ( which, I would no doubt, might be the motivations behind the kidnapping ), they should keep it up.

it was Islamofascists who murdered our people in the Trade Towers and at the Pentagon....

personally, I believe that TWA 800 was terrorism, that Oklahoma City had too many Islamic connections , that there have been other stunts pulled that go under the radar screen that are probably the Islamics....

I think we needed to take a stand....

someone had to do it....

maybe we should have stopped in Afghanistan, I don't know....

this is a world wide war, just that noboby knows it yet....its WW3...

having said that, perhaps we should just pack up NOW and leave...give an ultimatium.....control your country or we give it back to you immediately....

there will be massive retribution when we do that....the Shites will put the Sunni in their place...there may not be anyone of them left afterwards.....so be it...

its a gift we gave them.....civilization , and if they want to live like the animals that they are, so be it......

I wonder who the good guys are, I think many of the Catholics belonged to the Baath party.

After Saddam, Trouble for Iraqi Christians?
An Iraqi Catholic explains Christians' fears about the next Iraqi regime.

"Maybe the secret will now be known: Christians are being persecuted all over the world by followers of the "religion of peace." This just raises the profile. May God protect His Eminence from the powers of evil. May we be prepared to suffer for our faith."

Amen. How many of us would stand in his place and ask God to forgive our tormentors?
