'I don't want you to join me, I want you to join bin Laden' By Sean O'Neill and Yaakov Lappin

THE language is florid, the tone wavers between that of avuncular lecturer and excitable zealot and the message is consistently extreme.

Each night around 7pm the voice of Omar Bakri Mohammed broadcasts from the home computers of dozens of his followers around the country.

His live webcasts, followed by question-and-answer sessions, last up to two hours. The adherents, who give themselves usernames such as The Sunni Triangle, Jihad04 and Mujaidah, can also ask private questions to which they do not want the answers broadcast.

For three nights last week The Times monitored Mr Bakri Mohammed’s lectures, listening and recording but not intervening to prompt any of his answers. In the past the Syrian-born cleric has been careful with his words. His pronouncements have sought to avoid breaking the law on inciting racial hatred or soliciting to kill and he has constantly denied recruiting people to fight the holy war. But in his recent webcasts, Mr Bakri Mohammed has been less discreet.

Between 60 and 70 people listened regularly to the webcasts, powered by the PalTalk network, and many asked questions about the so-called covenant of security in Britain and the role of Muslims in a time of jihad. Each lecture started theologically before shifting to politics and often becoming heated. Mr Bakri Mohammed frequently diverts into Arabic prayers, quotations and exhortations.

On January 10, Mr Bakri Mohammed proclaimed his view that the status of Britain had changed in the eyes of Islamists. The UK was no longer a place of security for Muslims.

“I am speaking about the UK. Why it became Dar ul Harb (land of war). Because the MCB (Muslim Council of Britain) and the British Government issue declaration over every single imam in the mosque, 1,000 mosques, to report any Muslims who want to speak in favour of what, in favour of the jihad.”

A short time later he continued: “I believe the whole of Britain has become Dar ul Harb. That Dar ul Harb has not started yet, but still really they start it. They arrest ulema (religious men), they arrest scholars . . . they declare your job is to divide the Muslims, promote secularism and the kuffar has said use of IDs, integration, etc, and you should report to the police. This is what makes it Dar ul Harb.”

Mr Bakri Mohammed also spoke extensively about the “victorious groups” that had in the past ruled the khilafah (Islamic state) and would do so again. He said: “We have lost the khilafah in 1924 but continue the victorious group into today. We have Sheikh Osama bin Laden, our emir, and he is admired by every single person so that is the victorious group.

“Al-Qaeda and all its branches and organisations of the world, that is the victorious group and they have the emir and you are obliged to join. It is no need yourself to mess about.

“I don’t want you to join me, I want you to join these people . . . Allah he said these are the victorious. And today the emir of that victorious group or one of them who is well known emir of the camp of jihan is Osama bin Laden. Therefore support him. Be with them.”

In response to a question, he told his audience that the jihad was a correct path for all Muslims, not just those living in Muslim countries. “The jihad is halal for the Muslims wherever they are, the whole ummah (Muslim community) wherever they are. OK brothers. Wherever you are. Do it. Wherever you are, OK brothers? You don’t need to think about how can I go somewhere, no, no, wherever you are . . . just do it.”

The woman listener called Mujaidah asked if “sisters are allowed to do suicide bombings if the intentions are correct”.

Mr Bakri Mohammed replied: “It happened many times in Palestine, in Chechnya, in Russia . . . this is no problem, there is no restriction.”

He also suggests that there are al-Qaeda or similar groups operating in Britain: “Where are the victorious groups? They could now be in Iraq, Afghanistan, Chechnya, they could be in Britain.”

On Tuesday, January 11, Mr Bakri Mohammed’s webcast was mainly theological but the following night he returned to the jihad and world politics.

His theme was announced as: “Refuting the claim of the people who say, ‘What have the mujahidin done for us?’.”

He repeated his belief that the covenant of security under which Islamists lived in Britain had been “violated” but acknowledged that there was a dispute between hardline theologians over the definition.

But his main concentration appeared to be in encourgaging his followers to support the jihad around the world, either by fighting or providing financial backing.

He said that conflicts in Iraq and elsewhere were the result of a deliberate al-Qaeda strategy that began with the 9/11 attacks. “The plan was not confined only to fight in Riyadh and Khobar (scenes of terrorist attacks in Saudi Arabia). No, it went beyond that. Went even to the heart of the US and to the heart of Europe. To the heart of the East and the West, of the whole world. This is clearly according to plan if you read the strategies of al-Qaeda.”

Mr Bakri Mohammed said that he did not fear arrest and would continue to speak out in support of jihad. He told his followers that they must not sit back and do nothing. They had a “duty” to support the mujahidin and the martyrs were encouraging them to fight and join them in martyrdom.

DIVIDING THE WORLD

Medieval Islamic scholars divided the world into two spheres — Dar ul Islam (the land of Islam) and Dar ul Harb (the land of war).

In the first sphere Muslims lived under Sharia and Islamic rulers. In the second they lived in a hostile state ruled over by the infidel.

Later scholars devised a third definition, Dar ul Ahd, which means the sphere of covenant of security.

In such a place the Muslim population was a minority but the non-Muslim government was not considered to be hostile. Muslims could live peacefully and were required to obey the law of the land.

"Friends, relatives and co-worshippers of the devout family spent much of Saturday wondering how the seemingly upstanding Armanious family could fall victim to such a shockingly brutal crime. Several spoke of Hossam Armanious' participation in heated discussions about the Islamic faith on the Paltalk.com messenger service and threats he received for expressing his views about the religion."

From another thread on these murders. You are correct. This is not a good thing.

Yes indeed. And the threats against him and his family came from paltalk chatrooms.

And the NJ family of 4 were Egyptian Coptic Christians. They moved from Egypt due to persecution of Christians in Egypt.

Here is a guy broadcasting pro-terrorist propaganda on our own soil, seeking the same end as Osama -- which is to kill four million Americans, any Americans, anywhere. I hope that the FBI is listening to his broadcasts and knows who his audience are. How long would someone broadcasting pro-Americanism in an Islamist state keep their head on, I wonder?

One of these family members was an FBI translator.

The trial for Lakhani that is ongoing in Newark now is on hold. Lakhani ended up in the hospital for 'no stated reason'. Thread I started on that is here: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1313753/posts

Here is the link to the thread I quoted from,

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1321798/posts

it is the "Bergen Record" report on these crimes, but I wouldn't be suprised if this info is in many of the articles written about this. Much that is in the Press was on the TV news reports that prompted me to come here, and of course, find much info on these crimes. Let's see if this story of the murdered family has any "legs", there was another multiple murder in NJ, courtesy of the religion of peace that didn't grow any. Of course, that one was "all in the family" so it wasn't quite the same jihadi thing, and certainly no link to a British imam!

There's no way I could read that kind of BS on a chat line.

I'd pound my keyboard to a frazzle.

It almost seems like the beginning of a jihad here in the Garden State, what with the severed head being found, too. I hope I'm wrong, of course.
