CBS News turned over its entire "Face the Nation" broadcast on Sunday to inveterate Bush-basher Ted Kennedy, after refusing a White House request that they also include a Republican to rebut Kennedy's bloviations.
"The White House was happy to put Dan Bartlett or somebody else on that program and CBS said, 'Thank you, No,'" reported Brit Hume on "Fox News Sunday." The CBS snub comes just a week after the network promised Bartlett, who recently moved from Communications Director to the White House counsel's job, that they'd stop skewing their coverage against the president.
According to Broadcasting & Cable, CBS News President Andrew Heyward traveled to D.C. and personally assured Bartlett that "neither CBS News nor [Dan] Rather had a vendetta against the White House."
"From here on out [CBS] would do everything it could to be fair and balanced, he reportedly pledged.

No, No, No.
He didn't use the word "abuse", he used the word "TORTURE" in his question.
Uncle Ted then took the word torture and used it over and over again. There IS a big difference.
Schieffer comes across as a kindly, friendly avuncular man. He probably is. But he is no less a commited left-winger than Dan Rather or any of the MSM lot. Sometimes I wonder if he's just clueless - that it's possible he is unaware of his overarching bias.
My bad. The "question" was even worse than I had remembered it.
For some reason, of all the instances of liberal media bias I've witnessed in recent times, that softball-on-a-T question outraged me more than anything I can recall.
Luckily, no one watches that show anyway.
Did you hear the one about ol' Ted Kennedy teaching CPR to the execs at CBS?
He is as committed a left-winger as Dan, maybe more so. I've seen him reveal himself in the distant past but, in general, he is very adept at hiding it as your post indicates.
I agree. I was spittin mad, as well.
Talk about a blatant example of bias from the MSM.
SeeBS needs to have its press pass revoked at the White House. They are nothing but a tabloid-style propaganda outlet for liberals in spite of what the feckless Thornburg reported in the great white wash paid for by the network itself.
freepmail (and good job!)
Without meaningful SS reform, by the almighty Gubbmint, it won't happen, and I don't see any real reform on the horizon. The powers that be (pub and dem both)continue to raise their own salaries, increase their outrageous pensions and health care (life long I might add), add to the giveaway programs of "the great society", all along wanting me to pay for it and expect me to follow them.
I have a much dimmer view of what will inevitably happen. Look to history, particularly Rome.

Paging CBS's affiliates....
thank you for posting the pdf file _ I missed the broadcast and am glad to have this copy of the transcript.

(grin) I wonder...what if the CBS affiliates were to get a bunch of phone calls, asking rhetorically, "Why is Rather still delivering the news?"
You're welcome.
:)
And then they boast about how objective they are.
Why would the WH offer? It seems to me that balancing their show could only serve to expand the audience beyond the last bastion of libbies that are the tiny audience CBS now enjoys. The WH doesn't owe CBS any favors.
Is this how CBS plans to regain its credibility?
