CNNs Anderson Cooper Could Be in Running
New York Four CBS News staff members lost their jobs last week in the wake of an independent-panel report that found serious flaws in the journalism that led to a 60 Minutes Wednesday story about President Bushs National Guard service. One person who keeps his job is Dan Ratherat least until his previously announced retirement as Evening News anchor takes place in March (hell continue to report for 60 Minutes). The denouement of CBSs journalistic failure has cast a new light on the search for Rathers successor, making it more likely, in the view of some, that the network will seek an outsider for the job, TIMEs Sean Gregory reports.
The latest handicapping:
Katie Couric A network source tells TIME the Today Show co-anchor has been approached about the job. If she could be persuaded to jump, CBS would have to wait 16 monthswhen her NBC contract is up. But the network could name an old hand like Face the Nations Bob Schieffer or Early Show host Harry Smith as a caretaker until then.
Ted Koppel The Nightline kings contract ends later this year, and CBS is rumored to be interested in him. But would the ABC vet want the job? At least he wouldnt have to worry about competing with Letterman.
John Roberts CBSs chief White House correspondent was the early favorite and is still in the mix. But CBS insiders say the longer the search drags on, the less likely he will get the job.
Scott Pelley The 60 Minutes Wednesday correspondent is an ace reporter, but he may have hurt himself with comments to the New York Observer that seemed to disparage Roberts.
Mika Brzezinski The CBS correspondent (and daughter of President Carters National Security Adviser, Zbigniew Brzezinski) is a dark horse candidate, possibly as part of an anchor team.
Anderson Cooper The rising CNN star (who also works for 60 Minutes Wednesday) could be in the running, especially if the long-rumored CNN-CBS merger moves ahead.

Terry McAuliffe may be available.
Shepherd Smith.
Actually, I never assume that the enemy is stupid. That way I'm pleasently surprised if they actually do something stupid.
I'm betting that they're floating names like the affable Eva Braun's (tm Ann Coulter) in order to make their eventual choice look reasonable or even bold.
Who could they pick that we would object to, but who would be a great improvement over Katie? I'm excluding Osama from this list, that's too easy.
How about Billy Jeff?
Gag! BARF!
forgive me. I'm so sorry. I didn't realize I'd throw up on my own post. Never mind.
To make it up I'm posting the mandatory Ann Coulter image, having invoked her name
I am sure they are grateful and I am grateful there are not 50 year old nude women reading the news. Sorry, not my cup of tea.
How 'bout John Edwards as the new anchor at CBS? If the other networks get better ratings he could sue them.
CBS ought to forget about the "News" and go for the laugh's.
I hear PeeWee Herman is out of work. Just a thought.
At least we'd know what designer Kofi, Pelosi, and Saddam are wearing.
Was it "excess population", then "global cooling", then "global warming"?
Or was it "global cooling", then "excess population", then "global warming"?
And the joke continues. I am glad that these people are our political opponents because they are to dumb to know why they keep losing.
Works for me.
Bias? What Bias??
There isn't a spit of difference between any of them. This decision isn't hard to make. Just pull a name out of a hat to save time. It's just an act of reviving some leftist.
I still remember jumping out of my skin after clicking on the link to the Couric-Jackal picture some time ago. Scary scary stuff.
FIrst thought was: Wow.... going from an "empty suit" to an "emptier head"
WORMA SHAVE

If CBS wanted to solve its problems, it would be talking to a guy like Tony Snow.
A used to be cute, bitter feminist. They are braindead at CBS.
Just bought his book....can't wait to read it. Unfortunately, there are so many GREAT books on the market (although you'll need a GPS unit and a team of tracking dogs to find them at your local book store) that finding time to read them all is tough.
