President and Mrs. Bush did not make any public appearances today as the prepare for this week's 2nd Inaugural. The President proclaimed Sunday as National Sanctity of Human Life Day and Religious Freedom Day.
Today's Presidential Radio Address dealt with the issue of Social Security. For those interseted in reading the entire transcript (it's not long), click here: whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2005/01/20050115.html
QUOTE OF THE DAY: When President Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act in 1935, the average life expectancy was about 60 years, which meant that most Americans would not live to become eligible for benefits, then set at age 65.
Today, most Americans enjoy longer lives and longer retirements. And that presents a looming challenge. Because Social Security was created as a pay-as-you-go system, current retirees are supported by the taxes paid by current workers. Unfortunately, the ratio of workers to retirees is falling steadily. In the 1950s, there were about 16 workers paying in for each person drawing out. Today, it's about three workers for every beneficiary. And by the time today's workers in their mid 20s begin to retire, there will be just over two.
Presidential Radio Address, Jan. 15, 2005
Good evening to you!
It's been a really great day.
How are you doing?
I am doing fine watching mid somer murders on British TV at present, had nice tea of roast chicken, carrots and mashed potato.
Will send FR mail later this evening
Was it originally silent_jonny's idea or bitt's? I thought bitt seconded or thirded the motion.
Oh, that sounds delicious!
I'll be making chicken and broccoli pasta later. That should be great!
We are watching the football game this afternoon, it's New England versus Indianapolis.
I just got done watching "Along Came Polly" with Morgan (turned at the inappropriate part!). That is a hilarious movie!
We packed up the manger scene and my Chicago cows, but I ran out of packing tape! Actually, I know there are at least three rolls of it around, just don't know where . . . tomorrow I'm going to buy myself a little tool apron and use the pockets for a marker, tape, sticky notes, scissors, etc. that I can use when packing.
Watching FOX News Sunday, and Brit is just making mince meat out of Juan . . . he just can't win, but he's such a dork, believing his own point of view and refusing to consider what the actual facts are . . .
Since supper seems to be the subject, I'm having crab salad and an avacado. Maybe some roast beef later if I'm still hungry . . .
That sounds good!
I just started making the chicken, that will take a while.
Good food always keeps thing peaceful on the home front!
It's worth it...
On a happy note, one of my soldiers is heading home soon! He contacted me from Kuwait today. THANK GOD!
FReepmail to you . . . :-)
That little apron would come in handy while I'm making care packs come to think of it...
I just saw that movie on HBO the other day, which is weird because I haven't seen a movie in a long time. I was too lazy to change the channel. It was pretty cute. (I have a "thing" for Ben Stiller)
Yes, Thank God about your soldier coming home!
I haven't been cooking much at all since mr.h left . . . it's going to be hard to get into THAT routine again! Any ideas for a SIMPLE 'welcome home' meal???
***I have a "thing" for Ben Stiller***
I think Laura really likes him, too.
Back at you!
Then I'm in good company :-)
SIMPLE?
I love to cook complicated things, so I don't know if I'm much help there...
But there is a dish that takes some time and is a great welcome-home type idea. It's a big hit at my house. It's red pepper alfredo pasta.
Let me know if you're interested and I'll send it to you.
(It's WORTH the time and effort)
Was it originally silent_jonny's idea or bitt's? I thought bitt seconded or thirded the motion.ha! That's right. I musta been havin' another one of those "Doh!" moments.
I should have included silent_jonny in my post #319, too.
Thanks, LJ! :^)
I was merely trying to be sure for myself. You pinged me after two or three of you talked about it, so I wasn't in on it from the start. Thank you!
hurrah for me!! :)
Oooops .. wrong thread ;-)
