President and Mrs. Bush did not make any public appearances today as the prepare for this week's 2nd Inaugural. The President proclaimed Sunday as National Sanctity of Human Life Day and Religious Freedom Day.
Today's Presidential Radio Address dealt with the issue of Social Security. For those interseted in reading the entire transcript (it's not long), click here: whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2005/01/20050115.html
QUOTE OF THE DAY: When President Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act in 1935, the average life expectancy was about 60 years, which meant that most Americans would not live to become eligible for benefits, then set at age 65.
Today, most Americans enjoy longer lives and longer retirements. And that presents a looming challenge. Because Social Security was created as a pay-as-you-go system, current retirees are supported by the taxes paid by current workers. Unfortunately, the ratio of workers to retirees is falling steadily. In the 1950s, there were about 16 workers paying in for each person drawing out. Today, it's about three workers for every beneficiary. And by the time today's workers in their mid 20s begin to retire, there will be just over two.

Hi Wolfie !! Thanks for the weekend dose. I watched BahBah last night.. no matter who interviews GW or how they word their questions or maneuver around controversy to trap him for the next soundbite or faux pas, he never fails to be authentically himself. They just don't get it .. even now.
The pooches were funny ...Miss B is SO little and cute. I missed the ooopsie on the carpet .. DARN....bet that was a memorable shot.

he went and bought new camouflage gear for the huntIIRC, Kerry didn't buy his gear--he borrowed it from a local hunter. How cheap! And Kerry didn't even shoot that duck (or goose, or whatever the poor creature was). His helpers handed him a pre-shot bird so he could hold it triumphantly on the way out. LOL.

I wish I had seen that it is frustrating not being able to watch certain programmes you do. Even some of our cable/satellite programmes are not the same schedule.

Thanks for the info on the gear I have always believed that he never shot the duck for one thing for what I understand he was not involved in the hunt long enough for it to have been likely.

Plus also if I remember correctly he did not even have any mud on his shoes despite the fact he was supposed to have gone into a muddy wood area.

Your comments are priceless yes I had forgotten that gem that no one heard a gunshot.
Yes Kerry had more photo ops to go to. I think this is one of the reasons I admire the VP he is no photo op baby hugger. He does the political circuit but will not turn the things he values into political junkets he keeps his hunting pursuits private and the only photos you see of him with babies/young children are his grandchildren. Exception to this was the recent senate photos but as I have said previously IMHO he would these as special historic pictures for both the families and for the political record.

WOW what a great smile ... guess I must have missed this one, as it's new to me. Looks like it's from one of the G8 conferences with the ornate shirt he's wearing. Sure is a dee-lightful smile.

Cheney is a solid man. I can't imagine a stronger VP to stand by W's side. I remember when Kerry and Edwards made those crass comments about Cheney's daughter being gay, trying to stir up the Christians to vote against Bush (like that was ever going to happen), both Cheney and his wife handled that with a tremendous amount of grace and didn't exploit it, which they could've so easily done.

Welcome to the Dose. Love your "howdy" picture of W for your introduction. Would you explain what your name means in English?

"If you could photoshop some lightning bolts shooting out of his eyes,
that pic could be used to zot trolls ;)" Oh, yeah! I can see it happening, almost. Except I can't make GIF's,
unfortunately.
