Freezing Rain Coats Area Roads Air Masses Battling Over Valley
PORTLAND -- Its the battle of the air masses over the Willamette Valley Saturday.
At 9 a.m., light rain was falling, freezing as it hit roads, power lines and plants. Snow was starting to come down east of the Cascades.
KOIN News 6 meteorologist Mark Ronchetti said cold east winds are mixing with a wet warm front. The warm system slowly chipping away at the cold front will eventually win, and the freezing rain will turn to rain.
The temperature is expected to sit just below the freezing mark until about 4 or 5 p.m.

I'm down Enumclaw way. Started out about freezing this morning about 7:30, warmed up to about 36, then started ice pellets/raining.
Now it's right near freezing again and icing up pretty good.
Good thing I got my 4WD started.
Bet she looked good doing it, though. Unless it was Rita Cosby.
Now it's back to Freezing Rain.
It's pretty well glazed at the moment, and we had a 55 car pileup this morning on I-205, but overall, it isn't that bad. This time last year it was knee deep with ice on top...
LOL - you took the words right out of my mouth!
We visited Portland in 2002 for a convention and were approached by the strangest assortment of homeless types I've ever seen, as we were coming out of a fancy steakhouse. This unbathed woman who clearly fell asleep in the hippy years and is just now waking up chastised us for eating beef and how bad cows are for the environment.
The first Portland liberal to speak up and complain about global warming gets put out on a boat to drift the Pacific for the rest of his/her natural life.......
Not to compare with freezing over but we had beautiful fluffy snow most of the day here on Whidbey Island :-)

PS. Everybody -- the streets in the Willamette Valley were dry yesterday!
Tigiard?
Tigard?
GWB did it. :)

Hubby and I went to Portland for an event recently. We went to Powells, as we were told that is the place you "must" go when you are there. (Bookstore). Wow. The lineup of Bush-Bashing books was tremendous and prominently placed. The pro-Bush books were few and on the bottom row. I couldn't help myself, I had to proclaim aloud (so the employees could hear) "Well, there's certainly no liberal bias in THIS store, is there?" They looked annoyed.
"The Dallies". Yep, I did that when I first came here in 1969. I remember reading the paper, which back then we had the Oregon Journal, and there was a story that read: BORING MANY DROWNS. I thought to myself, "what a weird headline." I didn't know it was the name of a town.
In times of ice and snow and mud slides, I am very glad to be a "flatlander", living a few blocks from SE Precinct.
