On all the immigration threads, I've been trying to post a picture of Cartman dancing at Casa Bonita (which I understand is a real restaurant in Denver!).

CASA BONITA! CASA BONITA!

The Rainforest episode. Or as I like to call it the "Getting Gay with Kids" episode.

I am a card-carrying member of the religious right and love South Park.

But, then again, I am also a Calvinist, and I don't believe cussing usually to be a sin, just saying the Lord's name in vain.

The only stuff that sometimes grosses me out is the sexual humor, but I am used to that by now due to movies like Old School.

I found it hilarious because of how it exposed the fakeness of the Mormon history with the imaginary tablets etc., yet made it funny at the same time.

Is there a downside to the rise of South Park conservatism? I ask. "It can be," as its critics claim Anderson notes, "kind of nihilistic, profane, and vulgar." And, of course, "it will offend a lot of people." But, he says, "the biggest danger is that the activism and the attitude might replace an engagement with ideas."

The currency of the young is ideas. The currency as one ages shifts to results if one transitions to conservativism. But if the starting point for that journey is that of a South Park conservative instead of a neo-Vietnam liberal, the journey is much, much shorter.

"Liberals have absolutely no sense of humor & take themselves way too seriously. South Park really puts it in their eye "

Amen!!

No, it tanked. They didn't even break even (pre DVD)

Which sucked, because the movie kicked tremendous ass.

Weird. I am sure many people would like it. I guess sometimes a movie's success is just luck.

Parker/Stone blamed the film's failure to the crappy studio amrketing campaign.

A legitimate excuse, since the marketing was idiotic at best.

Actually, according to the link, they (barely) broke even.

The problem is, when you do something innovative and unusual (an adult puppet film) and offend everybody, don't be suprised when people don't show up.

I thought it was hilarious.

Actually, according to the link, they (barely) broke even.

Advertising/marketing costs were not included in productioncosts.

Following the rule of thumb that marketing costs 1/2 of production, they lost around $15 mil.

It may have barely broken even at the box office, but I know I will buy the DVD! That's where the real $$$ is.

Well, I was not impressed with the marketing campaign, but I'm sure you're right. They'll sell TV rights to Comedy Central for a few bucks and they should make better than usual on DVD.

Whereas the greatest danger comes from the left, don't forget on occassion to look over your right shoulder as well.

These people (the Christian Taliban) are nothing but Socialists with a different agenda. They call themselves conservatives but they are all about government control over people's personal lives. They also mistakenly believe they they are wholly responsible for Bush's re-election and that the nation needs to acquiesce to their every demand.

I have as much contempt for these weenies as I do for the peace-commies.

If the Republicans ever find themselves as the minority party it will be because they allowed the Christian Taliban wing of their party to go too far.

Please do not take this post as a slur against all Christians. I'm only railing against the busybody nanny-staters and they know who they are.
