BAGHDAD - US troops shot dead seven Iraqis who were found setting up a mortar post near a mosque in north Baghdad, an interior ministry official and the US military said on Friday.

“The seven men were intercepted by an American patrol as they set up the mortar near the Abu Hanifa Sunni mosque in Al-Adhamiya district in the north of Baghdad,” said the official, asking not to be named.

The Americans opened fire, killing all seven, he added.

US Brigadier General Jeffrey Hammond, the deputy commander for the US army in Baghdad, confirmed that snipers had hidden in the area where they expected insurgents to fire from and had lain in wait for them.

Hammond said the First Cavalry Division regularly sends out snipers to areas where they suspect insurgents might fire off mortar rounds.

He distributed pictures of two of the insurgents’ bodies whose faces were hooded.

I also hope your step-son stays safe. America has a long and well earned tradition of excellence in this area of military skill. If you have never heard of Carlos Hathcock you should look him up. Incredible shot and a valiant warrior.http://www.marinescoutsniper.com/sniper%20pages/Carlos.html

Shame we can ONLY hear about our country's bravest from outside sources!

The "main street media" in the USA only reports about cowards, such as

Coward of the County David W. Qualls, of Morrilton, Arkansas.

There is another report similar to this but a different engagement -- 7 terrorists killed by Arkansas National Guard folks:

Iraq - Arkansas unit's snipers make it 7-0 against insurgents

Admittedly, this article is a little deceiving there were 10 little terrorists but 7 fell down [for good!]. I guess the other 3 went to tell other terrorists what happened...

Known as "Long Tra'ng" for the trademark white feather he wore to taunt his enemies, he was so feared that when the standard bounty on U.S. snipers was eight dollars, his head was worth several thousand.

Good read, thanks for that.
