As we prepare to celebrate next weeks gala Inauguration Day festivities in Washington, DC, Conservatives need to remember some grim realities. For the past four years we have had both a Republican president and GOP majorities in Congress, yet we have not significantly reduced the number of deaths by abortion in this country.
In fact, in the 32 years since 1973, when Roe v Wade became the law of the land, more than 45.5 million unborn children in America have been sacrificed to the gods of selfishness, hedonism and personal convenience. That comes out to well over 4,000 infanticides per day, for three-plus decades.
Put in historical perspective, the abortion industry in America has slaughtered seven times as many helpless children as Adolf Hitler did Jews during his infamous Final Solution. What is the difference between Hitler and abortion? The world banned together and stopped Hitler.
These sobering facts cause me to contemplate just why this is happening in a nation founded on morals and values. One simple answer comes to mind. It is done for "the love of money which happens to be the root of all evil."
With that in mind lets examine the profits of Planned Parenthood, the nations most prominent provider of so-called "abortion rights," as revealed in its 2003-04 Annual Report.
- Planned Parenthood clinics performed 244,628 surgical abortions, an increase of 6.1 percent. A total 3.5 million surgical abortions have been performed at PP clinics to since 1970.
- Planned Parenthood clinics grossed $302.6 million last year, with $104 million coming from surgical abortions.
- Total PP income for the year was $810 million, with one-third of that, or $265.2 million, coming from public funds given by our elected officials.
- The PP organization has earned net profits for. . . . .

And abortion does not?
Likening an abortion to a criminal murder or theft misses the point.
Reasoning that the taking of an innocent human life in the womb is not like murder or theft misses my point.
If your 13 yr old daughter has been impregnated by rape she has two choices regarding the life in her womb:
1. Carry that life to term.
2. Kill that life.
If she chooses #2 and claims to be assisted in that decision by a god, as you suggest, it makes me wonder what kind of god that is. Actually it tells me a lot about what kind of god it is, a god of convenience, who places less value on the child's life than it does the mother's emotional/financial state. One who does not create us equal in its eyes conferring a right to life on all. A god having nothing to do with our DoI or Constitution or BoRs.
According to you, she has but one choice, morally and legally. I think that is not your judgment to make.
I didn't make any such judgment. I gave the choices possible, the judgment is up to the woman.
I'm sorry, but as a father of two teenage daughters, I have to play devils advocate here and ask you, what if your 13 y/o decided to keep the kid?
Well, do you think it should be her decision or do you think it should be criminal, leaving her no choice?
Keep as in raise it herself, or keep as in give up for adoption? I would be against the former and for the latter.
The baby is her baby. He or she is just as much a possessor of the inalienable right not to be killed as she is. If the infant does not have the right not to be killed - an inalienable right not dependent on any circumstances - then how to justify the right not to be killed of any unborn child???
[The next bit sounds very unemotional and clinical, but that's the only way I can contemplate this question, by attempting to be "clinical." I base my discussion on comments by Gilbert Meilander in his book "Christian Bioethics, a Primer." I'm still opposed to the finality, the irreversibility of death and am convinced that we humans are more adaptable and able to survive horrible circumstances as long as there is life.]
The only exception would be is when a woman considers the pregnancy a continuation of the assault. This might happen in cases where the woman perceived that her life was actually at risk during the rape. Consider a woman beaten or injured, or one who is held at gunpoint, or one who is believes that she has been exposed to HIV. There are also the women who are truly endangered by pregnancy. And the ones whose husbands can't bear the fact that she has been raped, much less that she is carrying the rapist's child.
Back to what *I* believe: I'm afraid that the reason for the exception for rape is actually a response to those who want to forget that she was raped, possibly, especially, her husband and father. In the days where women belonged to their husbands or fathers (and in the parts of the world where this is true), the male reaction is to kill the child of the rapist who stole "their" property - the woman's sex, fertility, and offspring.
Texas is still waiting for the 5th Circuit to tell us whether we can with hold our tax money from abortionists.
Our elected representatives passed a law and our Governor signed it, that forbade any state money to any abortionist and those who refer to them. PP has sued, an injunction was given, and the money still goes to the abortionists via PP. I have heard that PP in Texas had a profit of 45 Million last year, while Medicaid benefits were cut. Let the money go to non-abortionists, instead!!
The child is your grandchild. And, you don't own either your daughter, her body, her life, or the body and life of your grandchild.
There is either a right to life that cannot be infringed or there is not.
You have already said that I am not fit to make that judgment.
Gianna Jessen came into the world as a surprise. Her 17-year-old mother knew she was pregnant. She also knew she didn't want to be. She underwent an abortion procedure, having toxic saline solution injected into the womb during the third trimester.Jessen, then in the womb for 7½ months, spent 18 hours in the solution. "It burns the baby inside and out," she said. "(The mother) is to deliver a dead baby within 24 hours." But when a 2-pound Jessen emerged, she was alive.
"I did not die that day," Jessen said. "I was delivered alive in a Los Angeles County abortion clinic in a room full of teenage girls who had already had the saline injections and were feeling their children die inside of them."
She said she doesn't often think about her mother's abortion. "I just spend my life trying to smile and overcome," she said. "Sometimes, it does hit me, 'Oh, my gosh, I was aborted; that's huge.' There are days I think about it and I think, 'This is amazing.' But my whole life has been, so far, kind of an adventure. I really look at life that way." - Gianna Jessen
I am asking if you want to criminalize abortion?
Thanks for the link...I read that. What a great story of triumph, and the amazing thing that is life.
By the numbers posted, each abortion performed by Planned Parenthood brings in about $1200. Surely the medical staff could make a lot more money handling prenatal care and live births.
If I were an unprincipled doctor looking to maximize profit, I'd counsel women to carry the baby to term and check back with me at least once a month.
Correction: I botched the math, using the total gross, not the money from abortions. If Planned Parenthood performed 244,628 abortions and grossed $104 million from them, that comes to a little over $400 per, not $1200.
I think that would be appropriate.
An excellent post, especially the part about how no woman ever forgets being raped. Truth!
