The Fox television network said on Thursday it will provide its stations with TV spots that portray Muslims in a favorable way after it received complaints for featuring followers of Islam as terrorists on its hit television show "24."
On Monday, Fox premiered the fourth season of "24." The drama featured an upper-middle class Muslim family operating as a sleeper terrorist cell. The Muslim mother poisons her son's non-Muslim girlfriend because it was feared the girl could jeopardize the terrorists' plan.
A Fox spokesman said it would provide public service announcements sponsored by the Council on American-Islamic Relations to its affiliate stations. Local television executives can decide if and when to use the spots.
The move was in response to the Islamic council's complaints about the show.
"What we are hoping to do is to try and mitigate the damages of the stereotypes because it can bring real-life consequences on American Muslims and their lives here," said Rabiah Ahmed, spokeswoman for the Islamic group.
Citing a public opinion survey conducted by Cornell University last year, Ahmed said television influences viewers' perceptions of Muslims.
"There aren't any positive or even neutral portrayals of Muslims on TV; whenever Muslims or Arabs are portrayed it is always in a stereotypical way," she said.
"When average Americans don't have any personal interaction with Muslims, whether it be at work or at school, they base their perception of Islam and Muslims from what they see on TV," she added. "We did bring that to Fox's attention."
Muslims are involved in like 97% of the shooting wars on the planet, and about 99% of the terrorist attacks of the last thirty years have been committed by fanatic Islamic Arab males between the ages of 18 and 45, but no, we can't portray them in a negative light now can we?
I recall a certain day which helped form my opinion of said group whilst I watched the television: September 11, 2001.
Please note: Not all Arabs are Muslims! Islam is a (reported) religion, Arab is a race.
You've gotta be kidding? Some people out there probably believe that too.
Nope, not kidding. There are a bunch of threads around here on the subject.
Re#28 Yep. All of it, in its sickness...
Yeah, but if it weren't for the Crusades and the Jews then Muslim nations would be the light of the world!
The portrayal of Muslims as terrorists on TV is no different than the movies made after WW2, Korean War or
Viet Namh. Movie writers need themes, and Osama Obama, er,
Obama Bin...er, just ask Teddy Kennedy. He may not remember
the names, but he knows 'em for what they are. Notice how he differentiates, obfuscates, bloviates, stereotypes and
generally sees the world from an alcohol-soaked brain. He
has to have talking points to remember what he's supposed to rant and rave on. Lacking Shrum's coaching could make
him the most dangerous obese old Liberal in the Democraptic
Party. Does Teddy think our memory is short, impaired or
lost? Chappaquidic....Mary Jo....leaving the scene of an
accident....failure to render aid. The florid flatulent
exhibition on National Press Club was a hoot.
Doesn't work for me!
These idiots will want brownie points for not videotaping the beheadings!
How about "putting the brakes on beheadings" could be a good start...
Now, what could CAIR say on these spots to endear them to us? Maybe ..."We're getting the 'ell out of the US?" Maybe...."Here's a map to all the sleeper cells in the US" Maybe....."an X marking the cave Osama is hiding in".
Or maybe not.
No, I think the villains in that season turned out to be some evil consortium of oil tycoons, or something like that.
No, the democrats and their media accept their testimony against US soldiers at "Abu Grab."
Sometimes the truth hurts, doesn't it?
I'm sure there have been plenty of positive portrayals of Christians on television -- just so long as they were Christians who believed in gay marriage, abortion on demand, radical feminism, and weren't so adamant that Jesus is God the Son.
Never forget who the enemy of all mankind is. I cannot believe these monsters are infesting many of our major cities. I cannot believe that the networks are sucking up to such an evil entity as CAIR.
Say, when does this program air? What day of the week?
When camels fly, they will.
