Our nation's capitol is preparing for George W. Bush's inauguration next week, and here's a few photos [taken 12 Jan; "washington, dc (pre-inauguration)" album].

As I strolled around town surrounding the White House, workers were busy building the infrastructure for next week's highly-anticipated festivities (kick-off scheduled for Wed, 4pm). Friends, it looks fantastic! Security is definately tight, restricting pedestrian & vehicle travel around the White House and other government buildings. [Kudos to our brave and vigilant young men/women protecting our freedoms!!]

While these shots aren't as close as those I've previously taken and shared with y'all, I hope to catch better ones next week.

If, by chance, you have an access ticket (1) to section(s) offering good-for-picture-taking views of the parade and other inauguration festivities, I'd be willing to take photos and gift you any favorites. Please email me off-list (via FR email).

Enjoy! Here's one of the dozen you'll find at the link above.

PS: I'm particularly fond of how the exec bldg came out in #1 and #13. It was getting dark and the lights popped on.

Great pics, guaranteed to generate at least three Moonbat Letters to the Editor in the morning Portland, Oregonian.

This morning, one of them demanded Bush surrender Air Force One so she could deliver Care Packages to Iraq.

"I swear I am not making this up".

Nice pics. I didn't know this until a few years ago but #11 on the first set is the 1st Infantry Division Memorial, just south of the Eisenhower Office Building (formerly, Old Excutive Office Building (EOB)).

At first I was concerned the monument would interfere w/ the bldg shot, but came out okay. As you can tell from the sky, the evening was teasing and moving in slowly...

They're all great. You did good things with the evening light. The Civil War monument at the SE corner of the WH is one of my favorites too. I play "tourist" down there guite often but rarely take pictures. I need to start.
