How much pain does it take to adequately torture a Christian?
Research privately funded by the ACLU and other liberal organizations... ;-)
j/k
This is nonsense. God's not going to protect you if you drive into a wall at 90 miles per hour. If you purposely subject yourself to pain so God can save you, isn't that tempting God or testing Him?
No, this ISN'T from the Onion!
Luke 4:12
Jesus said to him, "Again it has been written:
You shall not tempt the Lord your God."
Deu 6:16 Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted him in Massah.
Yep. Presumption of the worst kind.
Setting aside the religious questions, how is "belief in the innate superiority of men", a priori, "illogical"?
Unless they mean it as men, compared to women, of course. 8>)
This is ridiculous. Your belief system can help you cope with pain that was not of your choosing or under your own volition. But what does religion have to do with how people respond to pain that they voluntarily subject themselves to?
Why don't they conduct studies with people who already suffer from chronic pain and test various psychological methods for helping them find relief? Wouldn't that make more sense and be more natural than artificially imposing pain on people?
This is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard of.
Your tax dollars at work.
Sorry, looks like non-government funding. Scientist at work!
Hope they don't put panties on their heads.....
I don't know if any of you are science fiction fans, but this is very reminiscent of the test given to Paul Atreides in Frank Herbert's novel "Dune" to determine if he was indeed human. The theory being that only a human could overcome instinct and tolerate pain rather than flee. (Of course, the test was a life-and-death choice.)
I've heard of the book, but I've never read it. Sounds interesting, and I know my mom loves it. She's a big sci-fi fan. :)
It's a long read, with a lot of interesting things to say about human potential. It is definitely NOT a Christian perspective, but then I don't recommend it as a model for life, merely entertaining, with the bonus of some good philosophical nuggets.
The next two books in the series are weaker, and by the time Herbert reaches the fourth, he has created his own reduxio ad absurdem.
Their going to simulate burns??
Ooooookkkkkaaayyyy!
oops
Their = they're
I have a cost saving idea: Just tie them down to a chair and make them read DemocraticUnderground posts for days... now that would be TORTURE.
They are testing non-Christians also.
