Hebrew name for US "Lands of the Covenant" remains mystery Aaron Lerner Date: 11 January 2005
The United States is called "Lands of the Covenant" (Artzot Habrit) in Hebrew.
It is commonly thought that this name was given in order to avoid confusion with the Hebrew name for the United Nations.
IMRA asked Israel Radio's "Moment of Hebrew" program for the source of the name.
They find that the term appears in Hebrew papers as early as 1857 - in the Hamagid L'Israel weekly.

Maybe it would be more liberally translated: Lands of the Constitution.

Could this mean the covenant the US has always had with/about Israel? Our founding fathers were Pro-Israel
To: SJackson
That is because we are considered those of the other 12 tribes that have vanished. The namd "Jew" comes from Judah which was a tribe of Israel. All Jews are Israelites, but not all Israelites are Jews.
Read the mention of the croniclers (sp) in the Declaration of Arbroath by Robert the Bruce. They came from there thru Sythia, Ibernia and up to Ireland and then across to the main Isle.

My Brown-Driver-Briggs Lexicon render Heb.
brit as covenant and treaty and gives
constitutio as the Latin equivalent with
diatheke as the Greek.
Check out http://www.britam.org for some work by Orthodox Jews who see more than a coincidence in the name.

Indeed, in Hebrew the Unites States called "Artzot Habrit".
"Artzot" in Hebrew = Lands/countries.
"Brit" in Hebrew = covenant/treaty.

They were pro-Israel, they wanted the Jewish homeland to be return to the Jews.
Jews helped bankroll Washington during the revolutionary war. This is why the Star of David still appears on the one dollar bill (made up of 13 stars above the eagle).
There's a wealth of info on the subject in Michael Evans' book "The American Prophecies: Ancient Scriptures Reveal Our Nation's Future"
To: SJackson
Perhaps it refers to Thomas Covenant, The Unbeliever, who is transported to The Land:

I dang near spewed coffee on that one. The last thing I expected to see, on this thread, was a Thomas Covenant The Unbeliever reference.

I just looked at a dollar bill, all I see over the eagle is the 13 stars representing the original colonies. I do not see the "star of david" anywhere.
I think this idea that the founders were "pro-israel" is a real stretch.

Here is a link to a site that explains how the "land of the covenant" is related to the lost tribes of Israel. Even the language is interesting.
For example, "Brit Am" means "people of the covenant" and this is the source for "Britain". The "Union Jack" and the word "yank" for Americans is from the name "Jacob" (according to the writer of this article).

My fav series of books, btw. Beats Tolkien books...Oh, yeah; I'd rather read a bloated wordflood about a hateful, bitter rapist-hero (??) who believes in nothing, over noble characters who believe in something, anytime.
I mean, why waste time on the original when you can spend years of your life on an imitation?
