TUCSON - The after-holiday traffic of illegal immigrants crossing the border is going up, according to a spokeswoman for the U.S. Border Patrol's Tucson Sector.
From Dec. 31 through Sunday, 5,967 illegal immigrants were taken into custody in the sector, which includes all of Arizona except for the far western region near Yuma, Andrea Zortman said Monday.
Slightly more than 42 percent of those taken into custody in the 10-day period - 2,531 - were apprehended in Cochise County, she added.
There are different types of illegal immigrants crossing the line at this time of year, Zortman said.
One group consists of illegal immigrants who went back to Mexico from October through December to spend the holidays with their families.
Another group includes those who are making their first trip into the United States but delayed their illegal crossings until the holidays were over, Zortman said.
Following are the numbers by day that have crossed into the sector and the number apprehended in Cochise County:
Dec. 31 - 388 and 146.
Jan. 1 - 267 and 99.
Jan. 2 - 329 and 151.
Jan. 3 - 318 and 133.
Jan. 4 - 429 and 233.
Jan. 5 - 486 and 185.
Jan. 6 - 889 and 282.
Jan. 7 - 773 and 358.
Jan. 8 - 1,025 and 505.
Jan. 9 - 1,063 and 439.
December figures of the number of illegal immigrants detained on Fort Huachuca showed a dramatic decrease from the number held in November.
According to post spokeswoman Tanja Linton, 51 illegal immigrants were detained on the fort last month and turned over to the Border Patrol, compared to 234 in November and 105 in October.
In December 2003, 41 illegal immigrants were detained with 94 held in November 2003 and 58 in October 2003.
The total number detained on the fort the first three months of this current federal fiscal year - October through December - is 390, compared to 193 for the same period in the last budget year.
Invader tally!
Maybe if we started a bounty system on those turned in to proper authorities we probably couldn't handle them all. Not enough busses.
LOL, that's considered National Security info now, but the numbers are holding steady. About 4.5% of the totals are OTMs.
But they sure mention that they got onto the Home of the Army's MI School.
If an uneducated farmer for Mexico can get on the base, you have to wonder who else has been there!
Never fret, they are on the way with the help of V. Fox. I just read an article in el-universal about a Honduran woman who was awarded a Human Rights prize by V. Fox. This woman is an activist who somehow or other got Mexico to build a shelter for illegal aliens from central and south America for transient purposes to the US. The article clearly states that Mexico is aiding these illegals.

We keep trying but until we can get someone other that just Tom Tancredo to listen and yell for it .....
In the meantime the ACLU, You name the Bleeding Heart Open Border Sob Sisters keep doing everthing they can to allow more in.
Heading right back up to our daily average of 650.
Sadly, you are 100% correct! Bush has been an abysmal failure on immigration and his phony guest worker plan (A/K/A amnesty)could well bring ruin to the Republican
party. In the 12/31 National Review, David Frum has an
article titled, "How Bush risks splitting the Republican
coalition over immigration." He points out that the present
out-of-control border situation is unpopular with the vast
majority of Americans. To date, both parties are out of
touch with the voters on the issue and any Democrat or
Third Party candidate could capitalize on the matter. We
saw how Bush supported a Terrorism Bill that had no teeth
in it on -- of all things! - illegal immigration and even
fought the few in his own party who wanted to adhere to
strong recommendation of the 9/11 commission in that regard.
I wish the BP was using buses here. Instead, they just load them into their patrol vehicles. Instead of a couple of personnel tied up, it can take a good dozen or more agents to transport a large group back to the BP station. This leaves their sector wide open for a couple of hours -- and the coyotes know it.
It's one of the main reasons so many are able to sneak by.
