Sadly, you are 100% correct! Bush has been an abysmal failure on immigration and his phony guest worker plan (A/K/A amnesty)could well bring ruin to the Republican
party. In the 12/31 National Review, David Frum has an
article titled, "How Bush risks splitting the Republican
coalition over immigration." He points out that the present
out-of-control border situation is unpopular with the vast
majority of Americans. To date, both parties are out of
touch with the voters on the issue and any Democrat or
Third Party candidate could capitalize on the matter. We
saw how Bush supported a Terrorism Bill that had no teeth
in it on -- of all things! - illegal immigration and even
fought the few in his own party who wanted to adhere to
strong recommendation of the 9/11 commission in that regard.
