A conservative group is threatening to sue the Secret Service for religious discrimination over security guidelines that would ban Christian crosses from President Bush's inaugural parade route.
The Secret Service said Monday the guidelines were meant to prohibit large structures that could be used as weapons. Crosses were the only religious symbols on the list of banned items.

They are not forbidding crosses, per se; you could carry a placard with a cross painted on it, for example. The only thing that is being forbidden is large wooden or metal crosses that could conceivably be used to strike someone with. Don't forget, leftist loonies, like the peacenik mainline churches, like to show up with these things as props in their stupid protests.

Aren't 'placards' normally fastened to large wooden or metal poles? Couldn't you conceivably strike someone with one of those too?
This seems a little fishy to me. The only thing I can figure is that the Whitehouse is trying to keep the parade as 'secular' as possible; signs are not as powerful a symbol. The weapons reason just doesn't wash, imo.
Crescents would appear to be more dangerous.
