BUCKWHEAT LAUGHS AT DAN RATHER
self

Remember Saturday Night Live, when Eddie Murphy did the "Buckwheat Sings" routine? Now it's Dan Rather's turn.
Let's never forget Dan Rather's ugly remark.
He said to Imus on-air:
"What happened was they got the willies, they got the Buckwheats. Their knees wobbled and we gave it up." [referring to CBS management].
The Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, a civil rights leader, chastised Rather for the remark, as reported by Newsmax:

There is another aspect to this.
Yeah, Rather can still brag about not getting wobbly knees.
When I heard that quote of him, I thought immediately about Solomon's warning [paraphrasing] "Pride comes before a fall." Man did it ever! Buckwheat gets the last laugh!

I thought 'getting the buckwheats' was a reference to fear. As in the the fear of dying by being shot in the rectum, as hi-lited in the movie "Things to do in Denver while your dead".

I will miss Dan's oddly "colorful" phrases.
Although it was probably just an affectation . . .

What amazes me is that these people at CBS, including Rather, all think that they've been singled out as scapegoats for one single incident.
That they fail to see that a pattern of liberal bias, shoddy reporting, and oppressive corporate culture has dominated the Rather era. He needs to go, not just for this, but to pay for sins that have long gone unpunished.

It's a metaphor for being scared.
References Buckwheat from the Little Rascals, the parodied token black kid in the gang. Whenever he got scared the camera zoomed in for a close-up of his eyes wide as saucers, mouth wide open and hair standing on end right before he fled whatever was scaring him.

what the heck does getting the buckwheats mean??Dan spouts a lot of Texas down home country phrases and clever quips that only he has heard. He invents them or more likely someone does it for him.
