Who cares! This country owes him a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid. He DID free the slaves by his actions. And, in all honesty, the Constitution works really well except during wartime. I have not turned on NBC news (or any network news) in the morning in a long, long time. For some reason this morning I thought I would have a look.

The first images were of the crowd outside cheering and dancing at their chance to be on camera. Then came Kattie Couric and the question, "Was Abraham Lincon gay?"

This was NBC's news shows lead story?!!!

Now I know why it has been a long, long time since I watched any of the three network news shows.

Yeah, he destroyed Tenn. because they illegally succeeded from the Union. They started the trouble by enslaving people that never should have been enslaved. Yeah, he destroyed a generation of fine young racists who fought for an ideal that was retched. Lincoln was our savior and a damn fine man whether you like it or not. He deserves to be respected, but then again I'm not a Southerner, so I don't know what it means to not venerate Lincoln...not that all Southerners dislike him. Just the moronic ones.

Lincoln did save Tennessee. At least that was the opinion of the majority in East Tennessee who voted twice to remain in the Union. Lincoln always impressed upon his military leadership the need to help the Union people of East Tennessee. I suppose the western two thirds of the state more more like the other southern states, but the best thing that happened to my Tennessee ancestors was when the Union army came in and cleared the countryside of rebel bushwhackers.

Not all of East Tennessee was Unionist. It varied county to county. Jonesborough and Johnson County were overwhelmingly Confederate and they are way East.
