Clinton: U.N. Fit to Lead Despite Scandal

Ex-president Bill Clinton defended the scandal-scarred United Nations on Monday, saying it was still qualified to play a leading role in tsunami relief efforts despite mismanaging the Oil for Food program.

The U.N. has done a "good job" in the tsunami crisis so far, he told reporters in New York, while announcing he was partnering with the world body in a brand new fundraising operation that will allow him to solicit tsunami relief cash through his presidential foundation. "No one has questioned the commitment or the integrity or the impact of the United Nation's humanitarian effort, particularly the efforts of UNICEF," Clinton insisted.

In a press release Monday, the Clinton Presidential Library Foundation said it was establishing the Tsunami Water and Sanitation Fund - a joint project with UNICEF designed to strengthen that organization's efforts to prevent the spread of disease in tsunami-ravaged areas.

"I appreciate having this opportunity to expand the work of my Foundation," Clinton told reporters.

"I applaud President Clinton for this extraordinary philanthropic leadership,” UNICEF Executive Director Carol Bellamy said.

Another Clinton appointee. Prior to her UNICEF appointment, Ms. Bellamy had been serving as Director of the Peace Corps since 1993. She was the first volunteer to have returned to direct the agency, which has some 6,500 volunteers in more than 90 countries.

The idea of washing the money through Clinton's foundation is a replay of the Oil for Food Program.

Some Good Guys in Tsunami Relief

By now we think most of our readers have figured out the very low opinion The Diplomad has of the UN and its wasteful, cynical "relief" agencies, in particular the notably odious UNICEF. The Diplomad has tried to give our readers a taste of just how truly obscene these agencies are and how they feed off the misery of the world's poor and the money of world's rich. The Diplomad also has been and remains very critical of the response of local people to the tragedy that has befallen their compatriots.

That said, The Diplomad does not want to get a reputation as just a bearer of very bad news. There are some people out there doing a lot for the victims of the December 26 quake and tsunami. We've already repeatedly mentioned the Australian and American militaries, and we can add the armed forces of Singapore, Malaysia, and New Zealand to that list.

We've had many readers ask us about good NGOs. We do not want to get into the endorsement business but we want to acknowledge some VERY good organizations doing exceptional work. If you want to give money to them that's your business.

International Organization for Migration (IOM)

CARE

Catholic Relief Services

Mercy Corps

Save the Children

All of these have very dedicated people working under very tough conditions for a fraction of the salaries earned by the UN blowhards. All of these organizations moved extremely quickly (especially IOM) in the wake of the tragedy and have saved countless lives.

So, he had a massive heart attack, and he's STILL lying for a living.

No surprise there.

"So, he had a massive heart attack, and he's STILL lying for a living."

AND, "living-for-lying." ;-)

It's all the man knows.

"BJ Bill just wants Kofi's Job"

And he's lobbying for it quite shamlessly too. Still, I think head of the UN is a good place for him. High visability, the type of job he wants, the corrupt enviroment he needs and a harmless place where we can keep an eye on him.

BJ Clinton: unfit to lead at any speed.

The Bellamy endorsement gives circle jerk a whole new meaning.

Did you see ken5050's thread on Clinton's heart attack? Said it was common knowledge in Chappaqua that Clinton had a new girlfriend, and an escapade brought it on.
