I found posters that described this event posted all throughout campus, and I find them extremely distasteful. According to the advertisements about these events, the pro-abortion feminists will gather this week to read off names of women killed in back-alley abortions and make general abortion rallies all throughout campus. Although I was not yet a student here last year, in 2004, they invited the chief attorney of Roe v. Wade (on behalf of now pro-life Roe) to speak about the decision.
My question to you is, what can I (or an organization such as College Republicans) do, through writing or rhetoric, to represent the pro-life cause? It seems like the system is definitely turned to favor "abortion rights" on campus, but this is plain sick. I wish we had the names of the 40 million unborn children to read off; this is such a disgrace to my school...

I would suggest coordinating with the local pro-live organization.

Opps..."pro-live" = pro-life.
The California ProLife Council website is here.

I suggest a "counter-commemoration" for the 40 million babies who have been killed as a result of Roe.

Thank you for your suggestions. I guess I will be in a very good mood during this week, because it will be the week after the inauguration, but I might as well start writing articles in the campus newspaper to let people know that there is another side...

I go to UC Berkeley, and I remember that one day a pro-life individual stood in front of Sather Gate (a place on campus where most students pass by to go to class) with pictures of what an "aborted fetus" (read: murdered baby) looks like.
I remember many people were deeply moved by it...and others...well, pissed that someone would show that. Reality sucks, huh?

Berkeley is in desperate need of a good dose of reality.
More should them what the abortionists are doing.

----"Day of Silence"---- Not for the aborted themselves, I presume.
If it's speakers they want, maybe you should recommend they dig up Jane Roe herself. Their reactions ought to be funny enough (and not only to reveal whether they even know what they're talking about concerning this case).

That's another good idea (an article in the campus newspaper...let's hope they print it). As a suggestion, rather than moralizing about the issue of abortion, it may be worthwhile to talk about the flimsy legal justification for Roe v. Wade. There may even be some arguments along these lines on the Internet (or the ProLife Council may have such). Also, summarizing Pres. Bush's position, taken from, say,
last year's statement to the pro-life rally in Washington, might be good for an article (not that your sensuality-seeking fellow students at UCR would necessarily listen to Pres. Bush, but it is the Republican position, and you may reach some students who aren't aligned, politically, with the GOP, but who may respond because they agree with the GOP position).

The school is doing such a disservice to young women by promoting abortion. It's sad that they aren't required to tell them the truth about abortions. I hope the pro-life people turn out for it. They don't care about the young women at all, it's just their political agenda.

That was a great statement by the President on last year's pro-abortion rally. I remember watching the rally on television, and seeing the teacher's unions (NEA) hosting a room and distributing literature to the pro-abortion crowd.
I think many college students, once they immerse from this radical atmosphere, begin to reflect a little deeper about the meaning and significance of life. When you frame the abortion issue in terms of the radicals that want late-term abortions and government-provided/funded ones, people seem to turn away from this "choice" rhetoric.

Yeah, funny (not ha ha) about that.
Seems feminism only concerns itself with females of a certain age.

The feminist movement is doing a great disservice to women by promoting abortion.
What weird ideology says killing your children makes you a better human being?

If you do go forward with some sort of counter protest, remember to have a video camera with you. Pro-life demonstraters on campuses have been assaulted before with little interest in punishing the miscreants on behalf of the campus authorities.

read off names of women killed in back-alley abortions taken from the list Darwin award nominees.
But seriously, perhaps these
people can help?

Well, I guess it's no surprise here. Despite the fact that it is surrounded by a conservative area (Riverside County voted for Bush) UCR is pretty liberal. In fact, I'm currently going to UCR. The can try and contact local College Republicans (which I am a part of) at their official UCR website here at http://www.gopatucr.com/ .

A sad business.
I was on a three-person visiting committee some years ago to evaluate the UCR English Department. We visited with faculty, talked with students and administrators, and pretty much agreed in our final report that the department was a very fine one.
The dean had told us that an infusion of money was about to hit the department and they planned to double its size. We therefore advised that they do so carefully, in a way that would build on current strengths.
No way. Instead they brought in a bunch of theorists, gender benders, and fruitcakes. In other words, they had a fake review and then did whatever they wanted. In this news story you can see some of the fruits of the regretable transformations that have occurred at formerly excellent colleges because of the machinations of politically correct leadership.
