Check out the actual investigatory panel report -- it credits Free Republic (accurately) for first questioning the authenticity of thye documents. The actual investigatory report can be seen

It's about time!!!!!
TankerKC pointed out that the memo looked bogus at 8:19pm Eastern Time -- while the broadcast was running! If it was obvious to him, why did it take CBS so long to figure it out? Someone needs to put a monacle on the CBS Eye, because they are seriesly myopic!
My understanding is that this wasn't a CBS report, per se, but the report of an independent panel. Of course, CBS did can the four execs, but Dan Rather remains unscathed.
CBS took a broadside hit on this one ..Nice work folks...
OK WHO"S NEXT ???? The UN I say ...weeeeeeeeeeeoooooooo
I think they were trying to get around this by citing the "myopic zeal" (which, apparently, is not bias but rather a rush to get a story onto the news... might be credible if that approach also was applied to stories negative to Democrats). In my mind, "myopic zeal" should go right up there with "fake but accurate" in the panetheon of liberal weasel wording.
Confirming what My2Cents says. Dick Thornburgh, Attorney General under Bush I, was on the panel. He's a guy widely respected for his integrity by both parties.
Not really. Everyone knows that Freeper women always Freep nekkid. It's a rule of the site.
"In my mind, "myopic zeal" should go right up there with "fake but accurate" in the panetheon of liberal weasel wording."
Well said.
Did you really expect to see Dapper Dan, The Slander Man go for a frog march?
Here's to you, Messrs. Robinson.
That's really wierd, and not especially flattering.
LOL. "Everyone knows" -- certainly not the CBS news guys who said "men in pajamas."
But hush, now they know -- I'm certain an unverified expose is coming our way quickly!
After watching the People's Choice Awards last night I see CBS is still up to the same old shenaningans...just different venue.
No.
But on the other hand there's something to be said for a slow, painful, public death (of reputation and career).
And that continues to occur, day-by-day. He doesn't have the judgment to realize it's over. It's soooo over. Lots of people can't look at his face without thinking of his impassioned defense of those documents for the better part of two weeks after every 12-year old had figured this out.
And the retraction?
I know he didn't, but most everyone, on this site and elsewhere, attribute him to breaking the story. He did not.
When the story broke, I heard his name mentioned on talk shows.
I suspect they will not admit the documents a fake is because they know lawsuits are coming down the pike. Res ipsi lociture
I was pretty active on those threads during the first 24 hours. What is obvious to one person isn't obvious to another person who lacks direct experience with the kind of document involved.
I argued with Buckhead and others during that 24 hours and advised caution. That was because I edited a small magazine in the early 1970s that was typeset with an IBM Composer. I had direct knowledge that proportional fonts were available. It was pretty clear to everyone that a Composer was not an office typewriter, but it still required font experts to nail the coffin.
They suck in plain English . Frauds the lot of them . Socialist morons. Peoples choice awards? who cares ..Michael who ? He's on his way to the ash heap of history . A no body if ever there was one .
