Thanks...

I think they've been so well entrenched, so untouchable for so very long, that they honestly no longer felt a need to be clever, or to even act as if they might be held accountable for their actions. The liberal media has run roughshod over the truth for SO long and there was not a thing we could do about it. Then along came the Internet. Don't get me wrong; these dinosaurs still wield IMMENSE power. For despite the inroads being cut, the big three networks are still the providers of information to the VAST majority of the masses.

For a long time, we were gnats to these people. Now we've elevated to mosquito. We can actually bring blood and make them go OUCH! :-)

I heard. Shawn said they came to the conclusion there was political bias on the part of the freepers but he was really ticked because they wouldn't admit CBS had a liberal agenda.

My favorite part of the whole drama was when the LA Times demanded to know who Buckhead was and he wouldn't tell them so they had to run the whole piece calling him 'Buckhead.'

I died laughing!

Not until the sheeple turn their backs on CBS News will we see anything close to an apology or a retaction.

Of course, we all know that.

The report is great, but it only excites the choir. The rest of the country will see "Dan Rather didn't get fired. He had nothing to do with this. He was a victim, too."

Taking it one more step, the sheeple will see him as a hero whose resignation was an honorable act of an honorable journalist. (YUKKKKK!!!! and DOUBLE BARF!!!)

I don't think the panel's conclusion that there was no political agenda at See-BS is credible, but this ain't all bad.

To show political agenda they would have had to study CBS's pattern of behavior and show that this fit into a clearcut MO. I'm sure that CBS limited the scope of inquiry to the Memogate story (they didn't want to open a Pandora's Box!) and, in isolation, the panel would not be able to credibly claim a political agenda.

Lots of folks who had seen military docs in their time just knew the entire doc was a crock.

Lots of little errors, but the funniest of all was the Box # on the letterhead.

The panel says it can definitely prove that CBS had a political bias, but it DEFINITELY says Mapes had that issue -- or at least "the appearance of political bias" -- for her telephone call to the Kerry campaign. The panel does go after her bigtime.

Okay, how telling is this? The report has this in its Table of Contents, referring to the new media expose' of the fraud:

IX. The Aftermath
A. General Observations
B. September 8-9 The Initial Attacks

"THE INITIAL ATTACKS" !!! They even find time to mention that most of these "attacks" are made by "bloggers with a" *gasp* "conservative agenda."

If CBS had put as much effort into researching the original story as they put into this report ... well, then they wouldn't be so biased, would they?

Thanks for finding and posting this.

This report is a good first step, and the terminations (by whatever means) of Mapes and Rather are likewise steps in the right direction, however, this saga is by no means over.

The next step should be criminal prosecutions. Mapes and Rather broadcast over state lines libel, slander, forged signatures, and counterfeit military orders.

Burkett should be prosecuted for libel, slander, forgery, and the illegal counterfeiting of military orders (all felonies).

Mapes and Rather should be prosecuted for wire fraud, libel, and slander.

After that, Burkett, Mapes, Rather, and CBS should be sued for civil damages.

In the meantime, Congress should debate and consider revoking CBS' federal license to broadcast.

Come on, stop giving them credit for anything BUT protecting their ass---they got caught lying and attempting to 'influence a Federal Election' and are doing their best to keep up a good front---the Panel let them off the hook about having a 'no political agenda'(not completely provable?) while the entire report shows that it was just that, pure and simple--that entire bunch of pond scum wanted Kerry elected and tried their damndest to get rid of Bush---CBS had to do something with this report of the "Select Panel", so they 'dumped' several of the schemers to show good faith to the public---watch who picks up the 'dumpees' so they can be 'reducated' and learn how to 'do it right' the next time---screw all the MSM and be proud of the bloggers and Free Republic putting a stop to the scheme, for without the 'net' these Rats would have gotten away with it and Kerry might well have been your President-elect
